A Question About Tyres......

Granted, but I was asking to see if there are any other tyres that hit a better compromise between performance, wet and dry, wear and cost. I don't mind paying top dollar for tyres provide they give the best all round performance. Just because they were 'designed to run on" PS2 and P zeros doesn't mean they are the best tyres for it 5 years later. Technology and compounds are improving all the time. Just asking for other considerations rather than blindly follow the company line.

Not following the company line.....but the set up/handling etc works best with these tyres...............in Maseratis estimation in 2002.......

I've run Michelin Pilot Sports, which I thought were cr@p (wore out in no time at all), Pirelli P Zero Rosso's, which I thought were cr@p (very bad tram-lining and poor wear) and am now in the process of changing to Falken 452's. I have P Zero's on the front until their worn and Falkens on the back. The Falkens, thus far, are behaving themselves admirably, though like any tyre that's half a mile wide, they're awful in the wet.

I have found tyre pressure makes a massive difference, which when you're not on the advised brand, needs a bit of playing about with. The Falkens seem to behave better when run slightly soft. Mine are also oversized. Details here....

I have the Falkens after a bit of research and recommendations from other forum members, I dont think any tyre is a clear winner in all aspects, they all have a trade off somewhere whether it is price, wet grip, wear rate or even looks.
your 1700kg 400bhp behmouth relies on 4 contacts not much bigger than a hand print with a surface that is at best unpredictable in quality - buy a good dry tyre - if it rains take the wifes car (and your keys)

Its something similar to what I used to get in my M3 and I've been told its due to having wider rears than fronts, but basically, driving up the motorway, when you change lanes, the car seems to jump about a little. It basically followes the rutts in the road and certainly gives you a shot of adrenalin! The worst I had was on frost morning heading up the M1 - I wasnt especially pressing on, but it almost felt like I'd had a blow out. The car has been checked over and there's nothing untoward so I can only assumed its the alignment (though I had this done in Nov too) or the tyres.

My QP does this on some whitelines with big cats eyes usually on the motorway or access roads , its as though the car skips for a fraction of a second.

i think my foot must be too heavy, i'm lucy to get 4K on a set of rears. Had it checked on a hunter, and it checks out ok, maybe a little tweaking could be done.

makes me feel better then, may be more like 3k, as they are rather slick at the moment, but sticking like glue

Had vReds from Oct to Jan, then moved to Goodyear F1's as thought thay may last a bit longer, but nope :) Now orded a set of Falkins for the new rims, and another two to replace the current slicks. They wear pretty evenly across the tyre though
