Spoke to a company last week about Aluminium bodywork, as I am planning the next project. This time its a two seater. I have always had a hankering for a birdcage, however, I saw this one they had prepared earlier and thought otherwise. Personally, I prefer the 450, mainly because it uses "Gods engine", a V8. Can't deny this is very pretty though. They also have an original 450s chassis which I may be able to borrow, and copy. The only downside, I might have to win the lottery just to build it. Oh, and dont let Loz see this. He might come over all unusual.

Sorry I may be responsible for starting you on this path there Andy; didn't expect that much action on it in 24 hours!

I'm sure there won't be many family holidays if you do!

Were talking serious money Matty , you must have remembered what i said i wanted to do , 4200cc in a 300S, and upto date brakes, it would take i imagine around £50K with an awful lot of self/joint input labour wise , Greedy bugger that i am i'd always anticipated do my own , but if 4/5 serious people were interested with up front funds in a organised managed pot then i could well be up for that

Ten lots of £5k then, each person gets it for 1 month a year, or more so 4 weeks a year then.

5 members would be better though, the fewer the better, don't know if I can dispose of that sort of money at this point in time.

Hold on boys, I said I was planning the next project. I'm a ways off getting the hammers and welding gear out yet. There are more than a few things to consider, not least of all the bodywork alone would be around £25k. Ouch. Add maybe £5k for the chassis, and you havnt even got any mechanicals, labour, and all the ancilliary parts to make it all work. having just done my Tipo, The things that cost a hundred quid, and two hundred quid here and there soon add up to thousands. The wire wheels and tyres alone on my Tipo were £2500!!. Having said that, it dosn't mean I dont intend to build one, however the idea of a consortium so to speak does have a certain appeal.

Just food for thought Andy , i have been 2 years considering and researching various options , one was to get Reklus (Argentina) to supply a rolling chassis with complete body work including Dash with clock cut outs , inner cowlings/covers pedal set , all for £25K (well that was last years price) so shipping and wrecky visits to add to that , was hoping to use a low mileage 4200cc lump and gearbox which is where i need to research further as to the feasability/problems incurred

It certainly is food for thought. I remember you mentioning the Argentine connection last weekend. Reading my post again, it sounded it more negative than was intended. Dont get me wrong, The thought of building a 300,450,birdcage or A6G for matter fills me with enthusiasm, however I am concious of the costs involved, building mine has been a huge learning curve. The earlier post about a forum car is also interesting. As I am now at the stage where mine has to be commercially viable, future projects involving partners, investors, etc. is certainly something I am considering. Also, using the car/ cars as a form of "timeshare" which will generate income. This is not a new idea, but it does warrent further investigation.
