Good evening fellow petrolheads!

Due to little one getting bigger Louise can no longer put her in the back of the 3 door Clio without doing her back in......... so she's commandeered my 530 beemer, bless her.

This means that I'm driving the Clio, which is as pleasant as :banghead1:

So I *need* another car.

The use it will get will be:
*1/2 hour to the airport, parked outside in the long stay in all weathers for 3 days at a time, 1/2 hour home.
*Popping out to shops/B&Q/off license/etc
*Chucking dogs in the back occasionally, but not having to lift them into a 5 foot high pick up truck
*Maybe towing 6m RIB or Horse box

The requirements:
*Comfy
*Powerful
*Not sloooooow but not necessarily faaaaast
*A bit of class would be nice
*MPG/Insurance irrelevant
*Reliable

Budget:
up to £15k (But anything for significantly less is definitely an option)

What say you?

well thinking about it 15k is too much for what you want it for....
id spend 3k and get a 156 or e46......

Another 5 series or the Audi 6 Avant, or you could get Louise a Scenic and save yourself a bob or two. :)

an M5 aint that eco nomical dem, what about an Audi A6, 3.0 TDI, good on fuel, and pretty quick with a torquey diesel engine, my dad used to own a 2.0 TDI A3, managed to get 50+ mpg and it was pretty nippy.

I was thinking of an old shape RS6 Avant. 4x4 good performance, good space, towing no problem. Bit of class. !! what do you think.

Dem,

I drove a new RS6 Avant it is very fast.. but I agree no character at all. But a good practical tool for everyday needs. An RS6 will clean up any GS... besides its Dan choice he was just looking for suggestions.. The biggest problem he gave me was when he wanted to pull a horse box with it as well.. I would use a Porsche Cayenne 4.5ls but thats not in budget..

Any modern TDi engine would suit the purpose, depends what you can suffer is the looks/ styling/ badge department.
If I was in your shoes
Alfa 166 3.2 (wouldn't mind dogs on the back seats) - my perfect daily car. Dirt cheap, rare and stylish.
Real world
Alfa 159 sportwagon
5 series with new gen TDI if possible
Audi estate (any)
Subaru Impreza sportback / Legacy

Left field
THE Top tow car - with dog room Audi RS2. Depreciation proof, might even make a few bob.
Mainstream oddball - Nissan Murano (engine from 350Z) / Juke
Most Nuts - Lamborghini LM002 8-/
