4200 to 3200

In a reverse of Spikes earlier thread has anyone gone from a 4200 to a 3200?!

There's a strong possibility that I will let my 4200 go in the new year as the wife and I are moving to a house with no garage and on street parking (don't ask!!!) + I will no longer need to use the car to commute.

Although I won't be able to justify keeping the 4200 I could probably could justify getting an older 3200 which maybe isn't in tip top condition…

Anyway it's early days and I just wondered if anyone has made such a move :)

Interesting one that, and TBH I dont think it would disappoint, but would go for the auto, not the manual.

Get the TB done with the contactless conversion and go from there.

You do have to watch out for rust in the rear of the 3200's though, I dont think the rust protection was at its best back then. Leaving it out on the road all winter will only compound this problem.

I dont know how old your 42 is, but surely a decent 3200 will be £12k, so surely your 42 is not worth much if any more?

You will save in the long run on servicing, as the 42's dont seem to have the costly issues the 32 seem to get.

Better the devil you know?

Yeah maybe! Mine is a late 2003, 35,000 miles, Larini Sports cat.. hopefully worth more than £12k.

Just looking for something which I won't be "quite" as precious about..

If it were me, I would keep the 4200. 3200 do take 2 or 3 grande a year to maintain. I remember thinking that is rubbish, when I was looking to get my first 32 back in 2005, but I spend at least that if not more each year.

So if you factor in 2 years running costs, I bet a leggy 32 over your 42 will end up costing more.

So if yours is worth say £14k, you need to be looking at sub 8k 3200's and you dont get much down in that price bracket.

Oh, you already have had the code read yes? What was the full code, will start with 1 letter then 4 numbers

P0221 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch “B” Circuit Range/Performance Problem

Which if I am not wrong is the pedal pot, get the refurb from LUUK
