4200 ride height adjustment - slight problem

Need to share with you all my happiness after my final adjustment! I called last week the Greek KW distributor who's in Athens. I was surprised from their goodwill and professionalism to support my needs. In few minutes I had at my email account all the official and needed docs of my KW 3 that I was missing from the previous owner. Beside that I was suggested to visit their best technician who has already experience to our rare car over here with KW suspension..
Conlusion: my car is now having about 1,5cm higher ride height and new settings almost same to the KW suggestions. I like it much better since the riding quality is now much better and again the sportier to OE feeling is there.. Understeer again doesn't show up at all but seems also oversteer is more easy and predictable than before that especially to slippery wet or dry was coming for nothing... clearance is also fine for me now and I can enter my job's garage without touching the body kit all time..
Alfatwo I remember you were the one mentioning the corner weighting! You were so right. That's how the KW dealer- garage finally adjusted the car and its correct height with the Corchi tower and its computerized settings- software.
They fixed the suspension and then balanced it with and without me inside it. Alignment also perfectly done

Colin,
Welcome to the forum..!!
Don't know what car you have, but usually this is an easy fix, switch on ignition, within 10 seconds can you move the seat all the way back to the stop, then all the way forward to the stop, then all the way back again, straight after one another, no breaks. If that does not work, try a power off reset, with the main power switch in the boot, by the battery, leave it off for say 10 minutes and switch back on, then try the seat..!!
Cheers

Welcome Colin.

To add to Robert's comments above: It it's a 4200 or GS you don't actually want to move it all the way. Just forward, back, forward, back, tilt forward and it *should* go through a self learning cycle where it will move itself all the way forward and back.

Of course, that's assuming it moves at all.

If it doesn't, then the reset is always an option, but check the fuse. Also sometimes the connections under the seat come loose.

Would maybe worth starting a specific thread for this, as it's nothing to do with ride height :) Let us know what car you have and where you are. And pictures. We love pictures :)

Adjusting the ride height and measuring from the wheel arch is all nonsense on 3200 and 4200's...

These cars were corner weighted from the factory, so don't expect the wheel to wing clearance to be the same all round!

Dave
I have the car already 1 year and a half and I am in a postition now to understand more about its driving sence.. I had also the chance to get it to our track at Serres - North Greece and I would like to get more on detail to the suspension..
Dave I always remember this recommendation given to me last year and I stick on that but I have few questions now for you and for anyone else who would like to discuss it here.
My last adjustment has been done and the result is somehow shown to this (sorry not great) picture:
Corner weighted 4200.jpg
This is WITH ME sitting in the driver's position.
So my 1st question is if you see that as a good adjusting result? One important thing making me coming back on this is that I had 2 times my front wheels (mainly the Right one) touching the compartment gravel guard after falling into road loops, while my tightening adjustments are little harder to the KW recommended..!

Then I still do some thinking about the diffrence adjustments between front and rear axle and I see how diffrently is the approach between FD:
Ride Height 4200 GT.jpg
and the recommendations from the KW manual:
KW3 Height Range.jpg

Should I ignore that or think of it?

By the way I measured last weekend my height (without me in) from the Wheel center to fender edge (KW way) and saw the below:
FL: 377
FR: 377
RL: 375
RR: 370

Sorry for the long post..

Hi Specialized...

So is your 4200 suspension set too low?

Goodmorning Dave, no the car doesn't look low not even has clearance issues and according to KW's manual (part of it above) it's almost to the highest level. .

Morning Nikos. I think i have agressive street on mine(FD). No clearance issues, but i am very careful with bumps, cause the larini cats are too low.But from memory only, KW brings the car too low, a lot lower than FD. Hope this helps.

Hope you get it sorted, you do not want the car too low, or you will constantly have problems and spoil the fun..!!

It's like when your on GT6 giving it death on the Playstation...if you set the suspention too low the dampers don't work,as they need to have lots of working travel..

It's just the same in real life!

Guys check if you can once again my measurements. If you compare them to KW's manual I'm already riding almost to the highest and surely NOT low

Hi, I'm new here.

I am considering the KW variant 3:s, but have not found that much feedback regarding these.
Talked with one mechanik that had a bad experience, but that is just one opinion.

Also dos anyone have experience of comparing the FD springs And the KW coilowers, any opinions, what would be the better choice for a more sporting but dayley drive ( i have the Sky hook shocks) Any issues fiting KW:s for the 2005 coupé?

Tahnaksi on advance!

I had KW Variant 3's on my 993 Porsche and they were great. The improvement over stock was very impressive and they looked nice and shiny even after 6 years :clap1:

Don't see why they wouldn't be a good choice for the 4200?

Fantastic thread

I have a stock spyder 2001. Here are my measurements from top of the arc to ground (two measurements at various presumably flat surfaces, separated by slash)

FR 66 (11,5) / 67 12
FL 67 (12) / 67 12

RR 66,5 (10,8) / 66,5 11
RL 69 (13) / 69,5 13,5

Here are the pics of my cars front suspension may be of some value to someone new to the subject
