I know we have been here before but my guage stopped reading and both oil warning lights on just as im getting on the M5 junc 20 sounded fine was nervous knowing she is high mileage and i drive enthusiastically i thought my luck was up.
Got a new sender from Eurospares a VDO unit made in Germany in a nice Ferrari box.
What a mare to fit even with the manifold off had to chop down a 24mm spanner to get the open jaw on to do it.
But she is back up and running good.

Nice one Phil,

Yes they're a b****r to get at, but more than worth the hassle for the peace of mind afterwards.

Cheers guys don't want to sound smug but have been on the spanners for over 30 years and i know a healthy engine and my sender unit was the original so not done bad as 9 years old.

I remember Mike doing mine but with the plenum in situ...his **** sticking out of my bonnet with lots of muttering and dropping of spanners, but he did it in a hour.

Well done Phil for attacking it yourself, did the plenum come off easy or was it a pig?

Matt,
My hands are just too big to get in there and even after modifying a spanner my apprentice with his small hands could not get in there.
The plenum came off nice and easy and it gave me a good opurtunity to hoover up the debris left from whatever had been liveing in there nuts and all guessing it was a field mouse.

Sorry Dave old sender got binned but i can tell you a 24mm crows foot 3/8 with a long extentsion would do the job.
I chopped a old Britool spanner down just to use the open end but did have to grind it down abit as it was not slim enough to go on sender and with a little tap with my favourite ball pein hammer she was out.
The new sender unit in its lovelly Ferrari packageing is a VDO unit made in Western Germany looked very similar to what used to be fitted on the Audi 5 cylinder lumps.
Sorry for delay in getting back but in the process of moveing house and this thursday off to Spain for 4 days Enduro rideing then Llandau everything happening at once.

Oils pressure sender

Thanks for the info on the size of the hexagon but really need an old one to prove interchangeability, if it is from an Audi, GSF or Eurospares may be able to supply one at a better deal..........my personal challenge from the forum is to ID something to save others....,next time someone changes a sender please save it and I will try and find an equivalent......cheers

To be fair Dave a genuine packaged Ferrari one was only around £65 and i recently paid £125 for a Izuzu Trooper sender unit.

Phil.

I remember someone used an alternate, he had to mod it. I think it was a standard VDO unit, made in Germany from memory, Ill try and did out the post. I think it cost about £30 or so, and outlasted the OEM one.
