Oh great gestalt that is the SM forum, I come to you in search of the secret knowledge that is both our legacy and our power ;)

Seriously, I'm going to search for a bit, but just wondering if anyone knew off the top of their head:

Today I went to see if I work out what the cause of the pretty unpleasant noise under heavy braking was. So (having borrowed a run out gauge) I set to.
Wheel off
Disc checked for true: No worries there.
Turned to lock so I could get to the pads: Hmm, back side of that disc looks *very* unhappy.
And lo, we have found our problem I think. Can't get a good shot of the disc face (can't get it off, see below), but I think the pads tell a good story:

Can you guess which pad comes off the inboard face?

So, I figure let's get it all apart *now* so I know it'll be easy to put it all back together.
Expecting lots of stuck bolts, but no.
Pad pins came out, disc retaining bolts came off no worries.
Caliper mounting bolts were tight, but freed up nicely.
Then I got a bit stuck
In the middle of the picture is a mounting where the solid brake line meets the flexible one. I removed the clip but damned if I can get the union free of the mount so I can get the caliper free. Please tell me I don't have to disconnect them?

Final question, I thought I'd get the disc free at least so I could take a pic, but it's on there good. I assume it's just necessary to apply the Glasgow socket set a little more vigorously?

TIA

Ouch! That is not a happy disk in the last picture. Remember when ordering replacement don't mention Maserati ask for 550 Marenello.

Looks like you have a similar problem to one of my rears, one pad eating away into the metal, one not touched. Bad fitting by previous whoever meant the piston wasn't moving...

Opie sent me my pads too, good guys with a forum discount. Just call them and they can make sure they give you the right pads.

The rear disc and pads don't get a lot of use unless you brake quite hard at times....seems to be an issue with them

That's why you have to drive them like me and Ian do to within an inch of their lives !

That's probably why I was 2mm into the metal of that pad...too many sharp downhill bits coming out of the alps...Marios said that he wouldn't have let me drive it to Autoshield if he knew the state they were in.

Can you get heat and WD40 on it? If there is nothing local that will get damaged get it as hot as you can, I had to use heat on one of my front bleed nipples last weekend I got away with a blow torch but really more heat is better.

Keep feeding the WD40 it will get the job done!

Newton: It's a rubber hose. I feel heat would be 'bad'
Beau, yes mate. It turns, in fact it's free in all vertical and sideways directions. It just wont come out of the slot, and I can't see why!
