Oh great gestalt that is the SM forum, I come to you in search of the secret knowledge that is both our legacy and our power
Seriously, I'm going to search for a bit, but just wondering if anyone knew off the top of their head:
Today I went to see if I work out what the cause of the pretty unpleasant noise under heavy braking was. So (having borrowed a run out gauge) I set to.
Wheel off
Disc checked for true: No worries there.
Turned to lock so I could get to the pads: Hmm, back side of that disc looks *very* unhappy.
And lo, we have found our problem I think. Can't get a good shot of the disc face (can't get it off, see below), but I think the pads tell a good story:
Can you guess which pad comes off the inboard face?
So, I figure let's get it all apart *now* so I know it'll be easy to put it all back together.
Expecting lots of stuck bolts, but no.
Pad pins came out, disc retaining bolts came off no worries.
Caliper mounting bolts were tight, but freed up nicely.
Then I got a bit stuck
In the middle of the picture is a mounting where the solid brake line meets the flexible one. I removed the clip but damned if I can get the union free of the mount so I can get the caliper free. Please tell me I don't have to disconnect them?
Final question, I thought I'd get the disc free at least so I could take a pic, but it's on there good. I assume it's just necessary to apply the Glasgow socket set a little more vigorously?
TIA
