It's old an knackered. You could try running a cleaner disc through it, but I doubt it'll help.

It's just going through its boot / do I have a disc thing. Might even be better to give it a disc

Mine also does that, and i do have a Sat Nav disc. I am going to try a lens cleaner and will let you know if it makes any difference, and you are welcome to borrow it and/or the sat nav disc, if you can't get a copy.

(please remove if this is inappropriate but...) I presume you can just burn a copy of a satnav disc. My car has what appears to be a CDR in it and the nav works fine. Properly up to date according to the label at 2011!

Now, the SatNav is **** compared to what you're likely used to, but I was actually kinda impressed, once I'd defused the 'defaults to Italian' issue. The voice is clear and direct, the map is easy to read at a glimpse, the lack of touchscreen... hmm yeah.
Though it does reveal some interesting insight into the way of thinking back then. I like the way that when you search, it limits the letters of the alphabet based on the available results for example. I doubt it'd replace my (old with way points) TomTom, but I've been on a couple of runs where I've been happy to try that road which looks fun and twisty on the basis that I know it'll get me home :)

Defaults to italian issue ? Was your stuck in the italian voice the same as mine is ? Mine wont let me change it to English without the setup disc. Eurospares still stock the discs at £60 just to change the language is excessive. Did you find another way to change the language setting ?

Are you sure you have it enabled? Not all 4200s has it.

Do you have a Sat Dish symbol on the display?

No, much less complicated. The text was set to Italian, and I speak (and read) less Italian than the Maserati ;) Setting it to English was a challenge, as I had to first figure out how to use the system (pressed lots of buttons) then navigate the Italian menus...
I presumed it defaulted when a new disc was used for the first time?

Mine worked originally and stopped when I removed the tracker?? On further investigation the car had no Sat Nav antenna connected to the NIT, how it functioned prior to the tracker removal is beyond me, I bought an antenna with the correct connector off eBay and it started to work again once plugged in...
Like you, if something is on the car I like it to be working, but honestly the system is poor beyond belief, I hope you have a Tom Tom as well.
