3200 wheels on a 4200

I have checked at the dimensions seem to be identical. Can anyone confirm if there are any issues with using the 3200 wheels on a 4200? Just looking for a possible spare set and to get winter tyres for them. The tyres would be 225/40 front and 245/40 rear compared to the standard fit of 235 and 265/35. The differences are not massive and may suit winter driving better. I am still thinking to use my car for a winter car but when tird it in December on ice it was not good so has sat in the garage since then.

Ah. That is interesting. Thanks for that. Back to plan B!

Hey Paul, long time, hope you are well. Finding 4200 spare wheels shouldn't be too hard if you really want to put winters on but seeing as I've seen you take the "old bangers" out when it's not much from zero outside, maybe some winters on one of the Lambos would be cool !!

See you when the world allow TT and other meets to happen.

And when did you get a 4200?

In the beginning I always thought the later 4200 wheels looked far better..

But with hindsight the original 3200 wheels with there unusual design look so retro cool nowadays... Just like the cars!

There is something unique about it but I can't explain it, its a simple look (not like say the Alfa teledials) but just looks different.

To me its:

GS > 3200 > AC/Early 4200 > 7 spokes

Hi
Doing fine thanks. Sold the QV last year but still got the Espada. I bought the 4200 in September 2019. I love he car. Fast; quite scary and makes a lovely noise. I bought a Bentley T2 last year as well which I also adore. Makes me smile when I am in it. It has Bilstiens and A Harvey Baillie handling kit so goes well. Trying to buy a Lancia Beta HPE VE just now to add to the bangers.

I will look at the idea of different wheel bolts as a possible solution as I like the winter wheels on the cars to be different from the standard. I have winter wheels on the day to day cars but miss driving a classic over the winter, well I do drive the Passat W8 just now!

See you at TT soon.

Plan B being don't be so silly to expose a 20 year old Italian car to the wet damp saltly winter, I hope!

I had that plan before winter set in, but the first time I drove the car on ice it wasn't happy so put it in the garage again. I checked and rubbed down the entire subframes and repainted them. Just surface rust areas. the main body was perfect. I had posted earlier about using it as a winter car. Most said it would be fine as many used them a year round cars without issue. I was thinking of buying a P*RC 4S 2002-2006 but not sure if any more rustproofed.

I think the Porsche would be better protected.
If you do decide to use through winter you would need to fully rust protect underneath for a start.
My BMW M140i is a daily and even with that the last month with all the shity salty weather I haven't used it, preferring to use my sub £2k Pinin instead!

My whole idea is to have something more fun to drive over the winter. I have an A8 4wd which is super quick but not fun; a new golf Alltrack which is competent..... and my old W8 which is good but getting on at 240k.

3200 AC’s ran the early 4200 alloys in Grigio so they will go on, just check the bolts are correct as others above have pointed out.

From memory I think it is only 10 bolts that are different, so you don't need a complete new set of bolts.

It will be the rears.

On a 3200 the rears are different/longer to the fronts, on a 4200 they are all the same.

Hi Guys

So I bought a set of 3200 wheels and put on Michelin PA4's. Got a set of rear bolts which are very different. However the fronts barely connect. Does anyone know the relative lengths?
I checked the Hill Engineering site and the front 3200/4200 look quite different but there are no dimensions.
Getting to the stage where barely worth putting them on for this year........ Although will have them for next.
