When should a water pump be replaced ?
If it shows no sign of leaking and in good order is it best left alone ?
My 2000 3200 manual , just turned 47,000 miles due annual service in May.
My service history has no mention of a water pump change.
I see Eurospares are selling them for £ 269

My guy feeling is that these are known to fail between 50 and 70k miles so you are right it might be time for a change especially if its leaking. Also be aware there was a thread some where about a bad batch of water pumps going about, it was last year, but it would be worth checking so you can spot a bad one if you get it.

They should be replaced if there is any sings of movement on the pulley/waterwheel. It should be fairly tight, not spin with the flick of a finger.

Also, if there are no signs of it being replaced on the cam belt services ever, then do it anyway.

Check it's not stiffening up or excess play when you change the belts, but for the price of it, I would just do it while your in there.

They are a wear item so if you have high miles and it has never been changed, change it.
If not, inspect it to see if you can get away with it.

Worn pumps will either have play, be noisy or leak trough the shaft.

I was the one that bought a faulty pump last year.
It's easy to tell, when you receive it just rotate the pump by hand.
It should rotate freely all 360 degrees of movement.
If it "sticks" and needs more force to rotate in certain areas then you have a pump with a shaft mounted in an angle and you should return it.

What you need to remember is that the timing belt goes over the water pump. So a failure can destroy the engine. So even although i do not think Maserati have a prescribed change interval, there are some cases on here of people who have lost their engine because of water pump failure, and you then have the question, do i risk it for £300? in my book its a no brainer, some point north of 50k miles you change it regardless because you would be daft not to? I will change my water pump on the next major service for sure i have just crossed 50k miles. just my opinion.

Just to confirm what's been stated - had a squealing water pump bearing, so told the indie to change it out. Probably out of alignment & while still with them was driven to an aircon specialist to get a new compressor fitted. Cam belt snapped, mangled 8 exhaust valves & cost 2k gbp to put right (luckily). Change out for a new pump & refurb old one at a specialist would be my advice.

Don't forget to order the gasket as well.
They don't include the gasket with the new pump

Just had my water pump changed at 82,000 miles. Engine came out for some repairs so did this for preventative maintenance.

What is best place to get water pump to 3200GTA today? I am in the middle of big service (belts, timing, valve lash, auto gearbox oil etc etc) and i am wondering whether to replace waterpump or not. pump seems original (130tkm driven car!) but is still tight and not leaking but i would like to replace it since it is old anyway.... But are these pumps really +800e (incl tax) these days??? If that is the case i don't want to replace it "just in case" :omg: Or can they be found cheaper somewhere?

Wow, just checked the price of the pump at a few places, they do seem to have risen drastically! Mine was changed with the belt, a couple of years ago, nothing like the price now.
