3200 Bearing Shells

My 3200GT is currently undergoing an engine rebuild, what started out as a leaky head gasket has ended up as a full engine rebuild. The trouble is that the main bearings don't appear to be available anywhere, Bill McGrath's have looked and can't find any; the big ends are available at a whopping £800+VAT, thank goodness for that! Does anyone know where they could look, who they could ask for mains for this engine, or is it a case of custom bearings!?

I'd give these guys a call, if anyone can find them they will! Gosnays

If you haven't found them new, please send me a pic of what specifically you need. I have made a 3200 engine as a living room table, which means that i do have a lot of the inner parts available.

Thanks 2b1ask1, I've sent Bill McGrath's a link to that co.

Mr.Gambio, I need all the big end bearings and main bearings, the crank is being polished so I'm not sure the standard size will fit anymore, might need something a little larger: Here are pictures of mine, horrid aren't they! Apparently, it's not down to a lack of oil or me not changing it (did that enough to fill a tanker), it was down to whoever 'fixed' the end float not installing them properly; the engine sounded and ran fine. More pictures in the next post, I can only attach ten.

That is nasty! Especially the last one! Last saw shells like that on my W123 230E, that only stood me about £500 to rebuild and boy was it worth every penny afterwards; simply flew...

Hi Mr.Cambio,

I've been told today that standard bearings will be fine. What would need to happen next to get a look at the bearings in your coffee table engine?

Many thanks

Just for tidiness I’m going to pop this discussion into its own thread, as the alternative parts thread should really be about parts people have found, not ones they are looking for.

I still have a couple of Glyco 3200 oversize thrust washers/bearings sets that don't really exist on the old maser part lists. £100 per set

Hi
l have 2 new MB shells if you can find the other 8.l did order a full set but l had the last 2 and that was a few years ago.
If no one is going to make any then it might be possible to line bore the crankcase and grind the crankshafts to suit a shell from another manufacturers vehicle. I looked at this and some Jaguar mb shells are very close Maserati dimensions and look like they could fit. It would however need looking at with someone. Who is experienced with machining and building engines.

There's always a way.... just depends how much money someone's prepared to chuck at it!
