I feel very lucky that work has been good for me on the spanners and approaching 62 rapidly.Well I am a little late to this particular party but need to do something.
I am 60years old 6’3” tall and an embarrassing 17 stone.
My initial aim is to get down to 16 stone over the next 12 weeks and I started yesterday, but I am no gym bunny and have never been a runner so just sensible diet and exercise should do it.
- 10,000 steps per day walking
- 15 min HIT on my cross trainer
- 30 mins daily “body weight” training squats etc
- max 2000 calories per day
My main meals and lunches have never been a big problem, I am blessed with a wife who does not work and likes to cook, we eat very little processed food.
But when I am away from home I am a nightmare and make some very poor choices and drink far too much, and work takes me away twice a week.
So :-
- no booze Mon - Thursday
- cut down Friday - Sunday and make better choices, so a Gin & Slim instead of a pre dinner beer (or two).
- no pastry with my morning coffee
- taking lunch from home when I can
- one cappuccino a day
Last year I lost just over a stone but have put that back on and some, this year I must do better.
Wish me luck ……
Suits you sir. This is me in the Urraco. Given the car is only 44 inches tall, it’s amazing how well my 7ft frame fits in.
Actualy would you believe Ewan, there is a chart for 7ft and over! This is me in the Urraco. Given the car is only 44 inches tall, it’s amazing how well my 7ft frame fits in.

Well here we are again, start of a new year. Notwithstanding the logic around *not* trying to make significant changes 'just because of the date' *personally* I'm looking at some small tweaks that I want to introduce.
I'm still carrying too much weight, mostly because I am still drinking more than I should. I need to address this as it's having a negative impact on my blood pressure (or something is) and at 53 that's not where I want to be.
Carrying on training with my PT and run club. Been getting a good mix of cardio and strength training, which is great. Keep getting injured, however, so need to be conscious of that.
And in a different vein I am trying to deal with things as I see them. If it's out of place or annyong, put it away, or throw it away kind of thing. This is actually proving to be very enjoyable so far (been trying for a couple of days) My office is looking great and far more conducive to work, for example.
So that's me
1) Reduce the booze (so I can get in all my clothes!)
2) Continue training (with the goal to get back to 5k)
3) Put it away or bin it.
I'm thinking these are pretty damned achievable. Number 1 will be the hardest by far, so I'm not going to beat myself up on it, but do need to face facts.
