Not seen this one for sale before I don't think

It looks like the car needed the CC brake discs replaced at some point, so someone will get the benefit of that

I think that looks like good value.

What on earth they did to need to replace the brakes at such low miles is an obvious question.

Don't remind me.... the CCM demons haunt me at night!

I am suprised some owners don’t just fit normal
Ones if they need replacing….18k is just stupid money no matter what they are made of or is just an Italian thing as a friend had a Porscahe with carbon ones and it was about 9k to replace.

Some do, they are available. But they are good brakes!

They could have knackered them by cleaning them with nasty shite. The carbon hates cleaning products, so any thought of taking your car to a drive-by Bosniwash or even using regular cleaning chemicals on the wheels is a huge no.

They can be vulnerable to stone chips and other debris from the road / track. Or they could have just fallen (fell?) foul to a sticking piston in the caliper which wore down the pads to the copper pins, which in turn scored the discs. This happened to mine but luckily I caught it in time and the pads just had the faintest of pin head showing. We replaced the pads of course and the OEM caliper pistons with a hardened, improved set from Hill Engineering and took the discs off to weigh them, and all was fine. The recommended minimum weight is printed on the discs. I would recommend this as a preventative measure to all Stradale owners as there is very little protection at the back of wheels so any moisture from the road can soon find it's way into and settle onto the pistons, and they are not made of the most durable of steel so can soon corrode and stick in the calipers.

But as Zep says, they are fantastic brakes and one of the defining characteristics of the Stradale so should really be retained if at all possible

Are they 18k good though Zep…..Or put it another way 32% of the price of the car good. I do think though 18k seems inflated against others so may be just an Italian thing as Maserati have always seemed silly money where parts are concerned.
Can’t you recondition the discs ? I’m sure I heard Matt say something in this.

It's about the going rate for a new set of carbons. Astons are about the same. They last forever... until they don't.

But they are properly epic.

I did hear that they do go on forever and I suppose whoever bought a car new that cost over 100k probably wouldn’t worry about the cost but it must put some buyers of buying second had when the car has lost 50% of its value.

One incidental benefit is the almost complete lack of brake dust, my wheels only ever need a gentle wash and dry and stay looking good between washes.

That is a big benefit for 18k Scaf. ;-)

So when buying how can you tell if they are going to need replacing. Apart from crashing into a field in test drive that is…

Well, the assumption is that you don’t need to change them very often. £18k is top money too, there are ways and means. They really aren’t cheap to run, but you pay your money and make your choice.

Rebrake, who refurbed them, have apparently gone pop. There may well be other options in the future.

Similar for Bentleys. £12,600 for just the front CC discs and pads. A frightening prospect to be the owner when they need to be replaced, but genuinely one of the best features of the car.
