Thats not fair Benny........I remember once I forgot who I am and went at 45mph. When I eventually realised what I was doing I had to break hard to bring myself back to my more sensible 15mph

hahahahaha 15mph on the M4?!!

very good fun we had that day......

Hupertheticly speaking what would I need to do to it if I was to think about buying it....

Well, I would take it to and Indy and have it thoroughly checked.

My main concerns would be the Cats, Clutch and the combined oil/water pump and the scavenger pump. The rest of the engine would be fine. As for the gearbox, they dont seem to go, so subsequently, there are tonnes lying around with people who break them as they are never needed.

Then look at the usual, brakes, tyres, suspension.

that's pretty much a given :)

how would she run with no cats until mot times? And how pricey is the combined oil/water pump to change is it a new timing chain change job or is it external?

Thx CT

Cats, you have 4, 2 in the headers (pre cats) and 2 post cats. You can remove the post cats without issue, but the header cats you need and these are the ones that can break up.

The timing chain I would change as its £100 for the chain, tensioners and guides, but the combined oil/Water pump is silly money at a grand. Dont know how much the scavenger pump is but is wont be cheap.

You could always just send the engine to David Askew and he will go through it, replace the shells ets for about £2500, or just not worry about it, and if it were to go POP, you can get an exchange for £2500 anyway.

Hummmmmm again ...........

How long has this motor been up for sale anyone know? All seems pretty much standard stuff to sort if it has been done already.

Or you could be the one to gain mega Kudos when the time comes to change it and go for an engine swap but for the 4.7 , like this one

2009 (59)

Maserati Quattroportte S AUTO 4.7 Rolled

Cat B engine runs

£6450

Its at south west salvage , that price is for the whole car , engine would be around £4.5K or less if you bought the whole thing and sold what you didn't need to David Askew

interesting eh 4.7 gransport sounds fun and Kudos points

........does it fit.....surely someone would have tried it before now?!

P

Yes it does definately Frank , only possible conversion might be converting it from wet sump to dry sump , but with the amount of freely available 4200 stuff around sumps pumps etc it aint the end of the worlds to do,..... some one goes half with me i;ll do mine as R and D even tho my engine is top notch purrs and growls as it should, that extra 40/50 horses wouldn't go amiss

Would love to buy that and squeeze it into a MINI. (no, I've not been drinking!). Love my little MINI, love the 4.7......love the QP type interior....not sure it could work, but what a toy if it did.

If we're talking serious engine mods, I'd forget the 4.7 for the sake of 50 horses. Engine would be £4.5K and then you have the management electronics to integrate. Go supercharger instead - 550 horses no problem.

yeah but yeah but yeah but ..... there would be a need bonnet scoops and things not the most condusive for resale either , i think an engine upgrade to 4.7 may well fair better come resale . if money wasn't an issue then yeah i'd have some of the supercharger

Has anyone ever checked the dynamic balancing and lightning on these engines? Personally I find a well balanced but lightweight set of rotating bits gives an engine that can punch well above what the headline numbers suggest.

Just the turbo/supercharger on its own... Yes in the area of 700-2000 depending on how good and how many horses u want, the turbo for my 159ti cost about £1300 new and £700 reconditioned
