The "Free" edition would be even better!

Apparently Cleo Laine is looking for the "On a Friday" version.

And as for Bruce Springsteen...

but only in Leftpondia...

I think there already is a 'free' version...

However the run-out version in 2030 is earmarked as 'Ultimatum'

Nothing new in the article, however knowing how frustrated owners are today with public charging, times that by 10 and locate it in 'Down Town' and add in high gun ownership... would you want to spend time there waiting in line and challenge the queue jumpers???

Thinking of replacing my electric car with a fossil fuel car and have some questions?

1. I have heard that petrol cars can not refuel at home while you sleep? How often do you have to refill elsewhere? Will there be a solution for refuelling at home?

2. Which parts will I need to service and how often? The car salesman mentioned oil in the engine and timing belts that need replacing and a box with gears in it. What is this? How much will this service oil change cost and how often – and what happens to the old oil. Also apparently these petrol type cars generally stop on the brakes alone – so the brakes wear out much faster – how long will they last compared to my current car which lasts over 100k miles?

3. Do I get fuel back when I slow down or drive downhill?

4. The car I test drove seemed to have a delay from the time I pressed the accelerator pedal until it began to accelerate. Is that normal in petrol cars?

5. We currently pay about 1.2p per mile to drive our electric car. I have heard that petrol can cost up to 8 times as much. Is this true?

6. Is it true that petrol is flammable?

7. I understand that the main ingredient in petrol is oil. Is it true that the extraction and refining of oil causes environmental problems as well as conflicts and major wars that over the last 100 years have cost millions of lives? Is there a solution?

8. I have also been told that you have to transport oil all over the world to turn into petrol or diesel, and these ships have in the past damaged the environment by leaking the oil.

9. I have heard that cars with internal combustion engines are being banned to enter more and more cities around the world, as it is claimed that they tend to harm the environment and health of their citizens? Is that true?

10. I have been told that these internal combustion engines make a noise when you start them – so early starts can wake people up, and driving a lot of internal combustion engine cars in towns makes towns noisy.

11. is it true people can steal the fuel from your tank?

12. what is the drop in range in cold weather, I've been told a car that does 45mpg can drop to 37 mpg in winter – just curious on that one.

13. a friend told me that the exhausts wear out – is that true, and people steal them for the rare material used in them.

14. I was also told – that the exhaust gas isn’t good for you – and if you leave the car running in a confined space – like a garage – you will die – surely that isn’t true is it?

15. next door told me – these petrol cars – carry around 40 to 60 litres of highly flammable liquid which is pumped into a steel cylinder, and its then exploded to generate expanding gas to move a piston, and turn linear motion into rotary motion.
Why would anyone want thousands of explosions happening within a few feet of where your sitting.

16. a guy at work told me – he has a petrol car, and it leaks oil. When he parks it – surely that’s not right is it – leaving dirty marks on the floor and contaminating the environment so directly. How long before this happens if I change.

17. my dad told me – if you buy a diesel car – the hand pump smells very bad, and you have to wear special gloves to stop your hand smelling, and if you spill it on your clothes it terrible.

18. is it true – the petrol and diesel is so dangerous, that you can only buy the fuel at a special filling station, and not anywhere (hotels/Car parks/Home/Work)?

19. while technology is advancing, will I ever be able to refuel my internal combustion car for free using only the sun?

20. would I be better off going straight to horse and cart, and not buying a horseless carriage – they sound pretty awful, burning dinosaur juice and polluting the environment whist funding conflict and war and consuming raw material at an unbelievably high rate.

Just a little update on my Tesla experience, and as previously stated I'm no "Elon fan boy" but 3 years into ownership the boot button stopped working, no real big deal as I can still open from the screen inside, my mobile phone or even the american hostage release from inside.
I raised a service enquiry through the phone app, the service team responded with an estimate to repair for free, they then booked in a repair with Tesla Ranger mobile who came to work and replaced the button and wiring harness to make sure outside my office.
I received regular updates throughout the booking and visit and a notification when finished so I could check the work.
In 3 years this is the only time it has needed attention apart from new tyres, wiper-blades and a pollen filter.
Despite the rumours I think this is excellent service and customer care.

That is very impressive indeed.

I will never buy a Tesla but I do hope this drives others to strive for service like this.

Probably do-able as they don't have that many cars on the road. Feedback from US owners is the servicing is a joke, often a 2hr+ drive to drop off, uber home, uber back, collect car, find out car is not fixed, uber etc etc...

Well the Mrs is now no longer getting a VW id3 as the lease company can't even place an order with VW, as VW has stopped accepting any new orders presently for the id3.
Bit of a shame, so the order has been changed to an Audi A3 hybrid instead. Looks quite good actually in S Line trim and apparently a claimed 40 mile range, which should cover the local stuff.
Tried getting a EV charging point but no chance with the grant ending this month.
So will probably end up using the granny charger initially overnight with battery only being relatively small.
Let's see over the next week or so if the lease company can actually get the Audi.....
Only been 15 months but the Mrs has been advised she is getting the Audi she ordered with her employers lease company in 2 weeks time. Basically giving two weeks notice for her Golf to be returned ***** and span!!

I’m fortunate enough to own 3 cars: MY07 997 C2 Manual, MY05 SLK 55 and a MY22 BMW I3s. Ive had the I3 for 15 months now and don’t have a charger at home, but can charge the thing up for free at work in the City. It’s congestion charge free and does what it says on the tin - it’s also much cheaper to run than the ICE cars.

The I3 is very quick, comfortable and easy to run. But they lack soul. EV’s are the motoring equivalent of white goods. Boring, efficient, comfortable - yawn. Give me a V8 or Flat 6 any day - if only the cost of fuel was cheaper, they didn’t smell of fuel and/or coolant/clutch.

If I had to keep just 1 car, the EV would be gone in a flash.

I've an i3 as well, but I view its daily commute use as subsiding the v8s at weekend

Me too currently wafting around in a 90's Jaguar X300 XJ6 4.0 costing very little and a Great place to be :)
QP6 GTS, currently waiting for the anti-christ to implement the ULEZ.

But my baby will stay by my side, she will be caught eventually but I'm happy to keep her.

Fed up of being told how we are suppose to live our lives.
Still a democratic country I believe.

Hang on
I need to pull back from a full blown rant.

Phew........that was close,

Time for vino

Personally, I have no issue with buying fossil fuels. By doing so, I’m advertising the fact that I’m not a tightarsed skinflint with a misplaced, smug, self righteous belief that I’m saving the planet. EV battery manufacture is causing massive environmental damage, and the EVs themselves are doing massive damage to urban and rural roads due to the massive weight they are lugging round. By all accounts, EV battery recycling is a looming crisis as well.

What’s the difference between an electric car and the driver of an electric car? When you park up, the car stops whining.

In the UK and Europe at least, we are being forced into buying EV,s as a result of taxation and in eight years, will of course have to buy one if we want a new car. In terms of driving in and around London, you can blame the 'looney left environmentalist' local government for ever increasing road charging!
That said after nearly a year of ownership, I have to say my EV remains the best car I have owned! Probably not for the reasons that will appeal to the traditional Maserati owner, as it offers almost Rolls Royce levels of serenity and refinement, semi autonomous driving tech that takes a lot of effort out of driving, and with looks (inside and out) that continue to attract enormous praise from passers-by!
