Would love one at £207. Only going to be sold (UK shops) in Edinburgh Cardiff and the 3 stores in London. Each buyer can buy 2 at most. I think some of them look cool. Wattie if you go for one in Aus as they are being sold elsewhere buy 2 and I will buy the other off you mate. Predict long lines outside the stores.
Had a look, Melbourne and Sydney only I’m afraid so I can’t help.
Hope you guys can get what you’re after.

Beautiful thing in its own right. Some are worried that this will dilute the value/appeal of the original but I disagree as it's not trying to be a cheap version of the moon watch, but something very different.

I agree. It’s essentially a plastic Omega, but I think it looks cool and doesn’t cheapen the Omega brand. I have a Speedmaster Rattrapante with a carbon dial too.

I was told yesterday that Rolex have stopped selling new watches, and even dealers with new in stock watches are not allowed to sell them? Seems strange. I'm not after a new (or secondhand) Rolex by the way, just in conversation.

I just spoke to my friend who is a Rolex dealer he said that apparently the dealers are stocking up their window displays but are not selling any ‘steels’. You are just put on a waiting list.

I get that this works in terms of desirability in the market and increase of 'residual' value (which in itself influences desirability again), but it's shenanigans like these that make sure I will never own one. (and I really really like the Submariner...)

I understand your point when I got married in 2001 my wife gave me a Rolex GMT 2 for a wedding present, approx £2k new now its worth approx £14k second hand and I have been wearing it. Believe me don’t let ‘Rolex Trickery’ put you off, as their ‘shenanigans’ will only benefit you in the long run. As for the Sub great watch. I have the blue bi metal pre cerachrom and it’s a stunning watch. If you only ever buy one Rolex get the pre cerachrom GMT 2 in steel. It’s their most versatile watch ie 6 watches in 1. 3 bezel colours and 2 different bracelets make it that, that’s how I ‘sold it to the wife anyway’.

£2 to 14k
How come?
I bought my TAG F1 around the same time, for not much less, and it is worth probably £500!!

So you could have the VAT reduction on watches from AD’s provided the watch was directly exported by them and we were married and living in India at the time. Also certain Rolex models weren’t selling at that point. Many AD’s had watches sitting in their windows for ages and they were known to do a ‘deal’ depending on your relationship with them. Now of course in the UK at least Rolex have taken the dealerships away from most of the independent dealers. Brings me back to my original point that if your Tag F1 was approx £2K, 21 years ago and is only approx £500 now, perhaps a Rolex would have been a better option.

Also the fact that Rolex ‘creates waiting lists’ and limits supply, this forces people onto the grey second hand market which means that used prices are higher than RRP if that makes sense. Plus the fact over the last few years Rolex watch prices have gone mental. Like they did with classic Ferrari’s and Porsche’s I guess.

How about a Tudor 79090? Same case, you get the option of a blue one without having to have white gold expense but yes used only and the movement is generic. They have gone up a lot in recent years but still more economical than the Rolex version

You are absolutely right. And good on you for having an appreciating asset (and a good looking, enjoyable one at that) :)

My decision is a matter of principle I'm afraid. Rolex is creating perceived scarcity despite producing thousands of watches, putting people on waiting lists (for what is hardly a cheap acquisition), allowing punters only to buy certain watches if they already have bought others etc etc. Same tricks as Porsche and Ferrari pull, as you mention correctly. It would just feel like I would be 'had' if you know what I mean, despite potentially making money on it in the long run.

Tudor Heritage Black Bay is a good punt in my opinion.
