Now that we seem potentially to be back on the road to recovery , im surprised that things have gone quiet in regard to reducing dependency on China , i hope as a country we dont slip back into business as usual , to get caught out the same way again would catastrophic

Heads will have to roll Phil , those advisors ,civil servants and NHS officials who were responsible , this is not a ship , Did gordon Brown resign when he called that woman a bigot, Did Blair apologise re the Iraq war and lying to the whole public re weapons of mass destruction no , whats good for the labour goose , is good for the tory gander ........................it really is that simple , it doesnt need to be ove complicated unless there are underlying agenda's like point scoring to delay or prevent the separation of the Uk from europe.

Totally agreed Loz all should be accountable.
What could could give Stermer some credibilty with his so called "Barristerial forensic analysis" , if he took the trouble and set up a quango group to investigate the Blair and Brown antics , Lets see him advocate to get Blair up before the ICC , we have proved now that money is always available in times of crisis , yet Blair sanctioned a war that sent 46,000 british troops ill equipped to fight an illegal war, i thinks thats a little bit more serious a phopar than anything Cameron or Boris has done , makes my blood boil and still rankers even now , when you hear he is trying to give advice like a Statesmen like speech

What has happened in care homes is tragic but am I right in thinking that most are privately owned? If this is the case why is it the governments fault they didn't have what they needed. People pay £1000's to keep their relatives safe in these places...The people who own then surely has some responsibility. But like said above by Loz and Dave we are now getting into point scoring with the political factions and this is just sickening to see. Why we are not all in this together sorting it out the same way is beyond me. We are a country of blame.....We have to have someone to blame for anything that isn't right ......... This is not the time for blame.......

Yes, most are privately owned. The charges PER WEEK seem to be £1500 and UP. Seems to me that there is a duty of care for the owners to do something and buy the PPE themselves...........months ago. It is just a cost of doing business. It's not as if they are hard up surely with what they charge. Anyone ever seen an owner of a care home driving around in less that a Range Rover Vogue?

There are no winners with point scoring. The govt screwed up, the NHS and procurement screwed up, care home owners screwed up, some of the public screwed up. People are dying before their time and there are so many issues and contributing factors across the spectrum to truly hold one area to account for it all. It has shown Britain for what it is in many areas however so hopefully we can learn from it all. I'm not hopeful of that however.

Remember when the Virgin brand was cool and edgy? Used to venture into Manchester which was miles, and miles away, 12 at least and visit their shop (not saying store for anyone) on Market Street, later became HMV I think.

Was made famous by The Freshies (Chris Seivey aka Frank aka Frank Sidebottom) with 'I'm In Love With A Girl From The Manchester Virgin Mega-store' - later changed for legal reasons to 'I'm In Love With A Girl From A Certain Manchester Mega-store'

Now Virgin is the symbol of corporate smug old school business
I remember that store on Market Street. Used to go there when I was a student in the early 80's...proper old gritty Manchester before gentrification set in.

Agreed...but my Mum was in a care home for 7 years and it cost £385k out of her and my Dads estate leaving not a lot left when she passed away in 2014. It was costing at one stage £1300 per week...plenty of money to buy PPE well in advance of this kind of crisis!. But no, the owners and the companies who run these places are quite happy to fleece the old dears and their families and keep the money for themselves and their shareholders. So the people I feel really sorry for are the forgotten residents and the staff on the ground looking after them, most of whom are on minimum wage. It's high time this scandalous and unscrupulous behaviour by many ( not necessarily all) is properly investigated by the UKG. When the care home manager turned up at my Mums funeral in a new Range Rover then there is clearly something wrong....just saying.

Well now, I agree completely with the last few posts about Private Care Homes.
Consider this though how our society has changed.
When I was young all my family lived either with us or in the next house or street round the corner. As one aged there were plenty of family members to look after them and visit them etc.
My two sons live away (London and Leeds) and they will not be around to look after me so what will I do?
Well we get packed off now to a Care Home where it is someones JOB to look after me, am I really going to get good care?
I looked at several homes for my late wife and they were awful for a variety of reasons and all were expensive. In the end I did not use a care home at all.
So all this sanctimonious BS about our elderly in homes now being a scandal is hypocritical. We put them there relinquishing all responsibility and ownership then complain when it goes awry.
The elderly are a massive problem that needs sorting. I don't have all the answers but I do know what we all are doing now is not good enough or right.
No offence meant to anyone on here, just frustrated
