I agree, but frankly when a frontline surgeon/ key NHS employee and well informed member of this forum gets this sort of response it Fecks me off. View attachment 67841

I'm a bit perplexed at someone being so fecked off by this.

Iain may well be distinguished and knowledgeable in all sorts of ways, but it seems reasonable that someone can respond to one of his posts with contrary views. But maybe I feel that way just because I kinda agree with the contrary views.

Also 'we have known about this since December', seems a bit strong, depending on who you mean by 'we'. My understanding is that the The Wuhan Municipal Health Commission only informed the WHO about a significant problem on 31 December and it took WHO a month to say that this was a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. So to start buying lots of PPE before the end of January would have been a very prescient, or irresponsible, use of public money. https://www.who.int/westernpacific/emergencies/covid-19

This thread started in early February, and even Iain didn't seem too concerned back then (although perhaps he had been keeping the real situation quiet for months).

So naive.......

Look, i can take the mistakes and the errors and the "didn't see that coming" problems................
BUT the LIES I can't take.
The lies over testing and the lies over PPE for healthcare workers, the "ramping up" and "coming tomorrow" we are in discussion with the supermarkets lies.
That is why our government should face detailed examination and heads should roll.
For full disclosure I am neither pro or anti Conservative.
I just want honesty in government. (oxymoron?).

There will come a time when assessing what could have been done sooner or better needs to happen, this is really not that time guys. We all have 20/20 vision with hindsight but at the point of having to make decisions, decision makers do not have that, as I know all too well. Do I get all the decisions I am responsible for that impact on other peoples life's correct? Of course I don't, no one ever could. This is not the time to mimic the labour "protest regardless" party waving arms and pointing fingers to score points, this is the time to pull together and accept that the decision makers are making the best choices available to them taking into account all the factors or do any of you really think they are knowingly making bad choices? Really? Get real!

Not really the time guys? What, so continue with people who are out of their depth then?
It's at times like this when we need the right people in charge, not liars. We have already been fed too many of those in the past 4-6 weeks.

I have had a look at the Der Spiegel website and there seems to be nothing like that there. Also, they don't have 'front page' articles in the print version, as it is a weekly magazine.

Yes maybe but guess what, the UK are making ventilators to an existing Smith's medical design, with over a thousand of them being delivered over the next few days to the NHS, even more next week and so on. Industry have stepped forward and despite all the negative ******** in the media, they are quietly getting on with the job.

the right people? come on phil, we are talking politicians their MO is to ALL bend the truth to suit whatever their audience need to hear, so no matter who you put in charge if bojo etc were not in charge we would be in the same position.

I find Mike Graham mildly entertaining in an anarchic and comedic sort of way but would never ever take anything he says without reaching for some salt.
