There will come a time when assessing what could have been done sooner or better needs to happen, this is really not that time guys. We all have 20/20 vision with hindsight but at the point of having to make decisions, decision makers do not have that, as I know all too well. Do I get all the decisions I am responsible for that impact on other peoples life's correct? Of course I don't, no one ever could. This is not the time to mimic the labour "protest regardless" party waving arms and pointing fingers to score points, this is the time to pull together and accept that the decision makers are making the best choices available to them taking into account all the factors or do any of you really think they are knowingly making bad choices? Really? Get real!
I agree, but frankly when a frontline surgeon/ key NHS employee and well informed member of this forum gets this sort of response it Fecks me off. 67841

So when there is an impending Asteroid strike heading our way (according to NASA an increasing probability by the way!) are we expecting our UKG to buy enough hard hats for everyone for the very remote possibility that it might happen? And by the way they only have 3 months notice that it's coming? Bottom line is you could argue that UKG should have prepared better over the last 3 months but frankly no one realised the true severity of what was coming because China lied about their mortality and infection rates, massively understating them. No Govt in the world ( apart from China) really had understanding of what was coming and how fast. Like a rabbit in the headlights, no govt can ever prepare for every eventuality....impossible!! And as others have said on this forum, no Govt has an infinite amount of money to spend on every eventuality, just in case.

I know I can be naive about some things sometimes. My psychiatrist helped me to develop a greater self awareness of such things and to be able to admit it.

Look, I get it Wattie, you had some investments go bad and you blame the markets, the banks, the financial advisers and Governments for that. So now you don’t trust anything any Government does or tells you, and you want to see the markets and banks etc fail as some kind of payback for what they costs you. But surely some perspective is required here. Everything Governments do isn’t somehow some conspiracy to make life worse for everybody. For the most part they try to balance a huge number of conflicting demands to make things better and get things done. For the most part....... And having spent 6 years of my working life as a public servant, I have huge respect for what they try to do, even though sometimes they get it wrong, for little or no thanks. Turned out I was too selfish and ambitious to make a long term career out of public service.
You don’t get it at all.
My investments didn’t go bad and I was a financial advisor. I now run a gold business and I still advise my long term clients. Guess what they’re invested in.

You’re wrong re governments, they’ve been perpetrating the biggest “financial fraud” since 2008, hence why it’s all falling apart.
“stimulus” - nope.
Ponzi has run out of money.

Guys I have no opinion whether we as a country are doing the right or wrong thing , what i do know 100% that what has been done thus far has been well intentioned from day one, this is a learning curve for us all , we elect governments not bureaucrats that run them, we are all mature enough on here to have realised by now that they get it wrong sometimes, sometimes often, I for one realised this many many years ago and made a conscious decision to think for myself in any given situation and do the best for me and my family , You have all had the same opportunity , relying on the govenment to do what is best for you aint gonna happen anytime soon , take some personal responsibility , at some stage in your lives you had the ability make changes that could of affected your outcome now ........you could have moved to Germany or Sweeden or Hong Kong or Taiwan where the figures ae lower..............................but you didnt you elected for whatever to stay here ..........................deal with it ................you could have voted Labour or Libdem but the majority didnt

I mentioned very early on when this started , the answer cure would be Quinin based , i also made the decision to get oxygen cylinders and respirators , and medical grade hydrogen peroxide , we have our own personal responsibility when faced with hard facts , i knew then the NHS was not going to be able to cope ............................many pooed poo me at the time

And yes Wattie i had the foresight not to sell all the physical gold i returned with , the one thing i was never going to prepare for was body bags .................not on my watch............ thats the hard reality of what we are facing guys , it will all become so surreal once we start seeing the black refridgerated artics with there azmat suited operators ........................we have to all pull together in unison if we are to prevent that sight being all too common . Now ive found out the Milton Keynes Morgue is just some 750 metres from me at the ice stadium site .

Why because it doesn’t agree with your view of the world? Why because it’s a valid challenge to the suggestion that the Government should have somehow predicted this in December? Good because most of your posts feck me right off too

I didn’t say that did I?.....

True, you did not quite say that, and I'm sorry for implying that you did, by my missing a step between 'responsibility' and 'appropriate action'.

You are (as I said) right to say "It’s a government's job to investigate and understand any situation that is a threat to its citizens. Then act accordingly.” [I added an apostrophe :)]

But the 'acting accordingly' part is tricky. When someone says "The sky is falling!" (as someone always does) it is challenging to know whether to act or not. In this case, it seemed to some people incredibly obvious, in December/January, that this was a real threat that needed a massive response, but this was not the universal view, and it seems (to me) reasonable that governments took a while to respond.

After 9/11 it turned out that people had written to the FBI and said things like "I saw an Arab taking flying lessons." and "What if someone crashed a hijacked plane into a skyscraper?" so they were thought to be negligent (by some), but the FBI also received thousands of letters saying "I saw an Arab at the Capitol." and "What if someone put a bomb on a train?" There is only so much that can (and should) be done, and being right (whether that is predicted or in hindsight) not mean that others were (necessarily) negligent in reacting cautiously or even not at all.

Just gone back and read the first few pages of this thread (which started in early Jan, no, sorry early Feb;)).
Interesting how it develops...

I’m sure they do. My view of the world is “naive” compared to yours.

Well the fact that NASA was the instigator would have me questioning it to start with. ;)
