No worries. Gabion is imported from Holland. The basalt stone is from south Germany. I freighted it all in on articulated lorries.

Hmm. Sounds expensive. I’m from Yorkshire. Think I can source/make gabions local. And stone. Definetly. But thanks for the idea/inspiration.

Didn't even know this sort of thing existed! Amazing what you learn on this site! Think I've got a Weber Kettle bbq in the back of my garage somehere gathering dust.

Maccaferri is the world leading manufacturer of gabions. My brother was an accountant there for years. He recently moved but I’m sure would still be able to get a discount.

You cannot get basalt black stone in the UK apart from very large stones which I felt would look too industrial. I particularly wanted basalt because it’s dark grey and turns black when wet and matches the zinc roof on my house and garage. I have 70 meters of the same gabion with basalt around the front of our property.

Front door and path isn’t finished on the attached pic but you can see the 2 meter tall gabion matching the house and roof.

Times like this are made for decent wine... I’ve had a bit of a **** week and have decided I deserve a treat… luckily I knew on Monday it was going to be a stinker, so I put four great reds into the middle section of the wine fridge to bring them up to drinking temperature.

Only question now is which one do I want...

Quite like Beefsteak myself. Can't really go wrong with Malbec. It's gone before you've had time to think "was it any good?"...!)
