I second what Andy says.
I found the forum the day I bought my first 4200.
I had a Good time in the 70'S and still remember those times fondly struggling a little more with the current times probably why I like living in France.

For my penny’s worth, there are two parts to this.

1. Oblique references. Girly pictures, funny (to some) memes, bantering with people you know or have developed an understanding with through interactions here or elsewhere. The winding up of someone due to a sports match.

2. Overt references / statements. Liberals are intolerant. Brexiters are stupid. Gay people are this, bi-sexual people are that.

In my view, 1 is one of the things that makes the forum what it is - as well as helping and being helped with our cars and talking about cars. To be liberated to have fun, have a joke, to be potentially offensive but to have enough respect for the other people that might see it to not go too far. I know very well that it takes me a week after returning from a SM trip to stop swearing like a trooper and to draw the line of humour in a different place. That’s what I like about it. Some can be offended by this, but to me that is a bit too “woke”.

2 is something we don’t have a lot of, but has been on the rise as I think people’s attitudes to online discourse has changed over the last few years. As a mod, I have read every single post on the brexit thread over the last 2 years and at times that was close to the bone and usually sorted itself out. But there has been an increase in the blanket statements, the disparagement of groups. This is something I think can alienate people who are silently observing.

I think the NSFW (the name needs work) category is a good idea, as is removing the fruitier stuff from the latest posts.

I also believe we should have a very short code if conduct. Nothing too onerous and what most members already abide by, like be respectful, don’t disparage individuals or groups and most importantly have fun. If you are offended, say so, and it can be judged and dealt with. The presence of this may not change a great deal, but it might encourage newbies to have the confidence to join in.

At the bottom of every post is a report option. Matt how often does this actually occur?

I’d never come across the NSFW acronym before, and was wondering what else could NSFW stand for?

..... National Socialist Freedom Workers

Or,...... No Stupid Finger Waggers

How about ...... Now Showing Free Willy (the film, not the body part)

any other suggestions?

For me....
To sum up this forum? It’s this thread!

yes people go close to the edge and yes there may be some borderline dodgy pics from time to time but the fact we are still talking and sharing our views is excellent

you only have to read through this thread to see the humour but also the seriousness

I say keep going, excellent place that we have here and I’m very proud to be a part of it

Ok....incoming female perspective! A bit late to the party but never mind.

I think that too much tinkering around the edges of the forum would possibly change the flow and spontaneity which is interesting, and often downright hilarious, and makes this so different from others. I don't post on anything else (and not that often on here) but have seen on many other sites almost every post descending into f ing and blinding in a very short time. The level of member moderation on here is a light touch and seems to be pretty much all that's needed and I think that shows the general respect that everyone has, and what is there already is what new people will follow.
I wouldn't think that newbies are being put off by some of the content as surely they, as I did, will have been following the forum for a bit and know what to expect before they register. My son was apprehensive when I said I was going to join as he thought that I would just get a load of abuse for being a woman on a 'male' orientated site, and others have said the same, but I've found nothing of the sort, although having said that, members, other than the ones I've met at shows, would not know from my posting name one way or the other. I don't 'refrain' from posting because I'm made to feel that I shouldn't because of my gender, I post if I have something I can help with or need advice. I could, if you really, really want, start posts about nails, handbags, shoes, cute kittens.......;). I can just tell that that would run and run!
I have no problem with the pics of scantily clad young ladies - sometimes a bit near the mark? Maybe that's because, as RoaryRati says above, I work in a male dominated industry and am no delicate flower because of it. The impression I get from the pictures and the banter is that there is no malice behind it and it's all done tongue-in-cheek, if you don't like it don't look. The younger generation may not be so tolerant but I have a job to get offended by much on here.
There's enough car stuff and a good mix of other topics, and it surely cannot be bad that people feel able to open up about all sorts of things and receive support and encouragement. The over riding impression is one of helpfulness, humour and great knowledge. The End!

Trust me we have had chats about items of clothing and footwear.
The Guys that wear red trousers and yellow shoes usually Geoff Capes if my memory serves me right.
Quite a few of us have Cats and love them we acquired ours as a squatter at our house in France and now she is part of the family :)

Very nice love. Now put the kettle on and make us all a brew.
