So the BelVita figure is total sugar? How you know on a packet what is naturally occurring sugars and what is free/added sugar?

I’ve just got to this part of my H&S online course. Ironic really as I’ve frantically been going through the modules almost non stop since 7:30 this morning as I’m nearly out of time to complete and haven’t had chance up until now. !!! F it I’m leaving at 4:30 today:rolleyes:
Ahhh Fond memories (not!)

Yes guys sugar is a no no
Yes look carefully at food labeling
Drink only water throughout the day between 4 and 6 pints (I know from a kidney stone episode). The water can be hot or cold and can be spiced up with Lemon or Lime etc
There are reduced sugar B Beans etc in supermarkets which although not perfect are an improvement.
I got weighed today and have gone from 12 stone 10 lbs to 13 stone over the festive period so I have some work to do to get to 12 stone 4 ish

I stand corrected....I am being a numpty. Not sure what that 100g thing is on the left. Each biscuit is actually 50g so the figures are correct. The packet is 250g total with 5 biscuits.

However.....and her comes the rub. It says for 50g serving (one biscuit) there is 11g of sugar. It also says this is 12% of the reference intake of an average adult. Read that again.....reference intake of an average adult.
Pretty sure that's what I said earlier :)

Anway the traffic lights is pretty flawed as well. Butter, for example, gets a red for fat. Of course it does, but only a total idiot would sit down and eat a packet.

[puff, pant, puff, wheeze]

I just rowed 3k metres in a bit over 13 minutes, alternating the resistance from time to time for no particular reason other than variety. More done in than I should be, but watching Hoovie's Garage on YouTube made for a more interesting row and put me off buying the cheapest Rolls Royce Phantom I could find (not that I would ever want to, you understand). Earlier on I walked a brisk 6.4k kms in a shade over an hour.

On the downside, we still have some Stilton left from Christmas which I enjoyed at lunchtime. I'd say it's Stilton 2, Rowing 1. One step up and two steps back. Still, when it's gone I shan't be buying any more.

Just for interest the fire brigade used to require applicants to be able to row for 30 mins at 2:00min/500m split. Maybe a small target to train towards - the times that is, not joining up.

That is a good target, and probably attainable (in time!). I currently manage 1:45/500 when I'm going like the clappers and ease off to 2:15/500. When I used to exercise more regularly I could come in below 2:00/500 over 2,500-3k metres. I should probably take it a bit less looney and see how long I manage at a more steady pace. Tomorrow.

Wow - I’m surprised by that...

I have done a decent amount of rowing in the last 12 months, and have got a recent 5k PB of just over 20mins (which is 2:00 per 500) and a 30mins distance of 7,330m (which is 2:02 per 500)...

Rowing is a fantastic all over exercise, but I find it harder to do for prolonged periods of time, and I found myself always trying to beat my times, so never just having an easy row.

A couple of friends from school tried out - one sailed through the other could never get passed the rowing. Awful technique which broke down under stress. Wouldn't lIke to say how long I used C2s for - used to collect the t- shirts every K5Km. Until they starting charging for them - och noooooo.

After my wife had stopped laughing at the state I was in after just 13 minutes, she did ask why I can't just have a nice row, why does it have to be some kind of competition with myself. I just looked at her baffled, which set her off laughing again.

Thank God we all have one another for support!

I need some new batteries for my rower so that I can see time/distance, as so far I've just been on it for 15mins at a time.

Bit of a slide on the food front today, as I attempted to consume my body weight in sandwiches and sausage rolls at the wake this afternoon. But at least I don't need to eat tonight now.

Ive had a niggling headache for the last couple days, but I think that's alcohol withdrawal. So hopefully should go in a day or so.

The batteries in my machine are flat but it can still use its own energy to power the display. Trouble is, it takes a few tugs to get started (no jokes) and if you stop it goes off (still no jokes), so you can't actually use any of the programmed routines, only use it for free rowing.

Anyway, hopefully the funeral wasn't too arduous and your headache shifts.

(I suppose this health-kick means we'll need to go out for a healthy grain-based salad and some sparkling mineral water instead of a boozy Nepalese??)

Me too Dan - but I had the same in October when I went dry as well and it took about 4 days for that to stop and for me to feel normal again...

Best way to lose weigh, cook for yourself.
Don't use cook in sauces such as Dolmio/Ragu just use a tin of tomatoes and herb for the bologniase sauce (zep will be along soon to dismiss this!) Also if you want to do a chilli con carne use thin red chillies for the heat and a tin of Tesco own brand kindey beans in chili sauce not water with less than 5% mince beef. (the Mrs loves it!)

If you have hot food it can raise your metabolism and therefore you can lose weigh quicker. Think of it as your engine idle tickover speed running faster! I'll post my stats tomorrow and see if I can get my resting heart rate below 60...

Also you might want some mince in there. And some onion. And some garlic. And some butter. And some cream if you are being adventurous. In all honesty this is probably not a dish for this thread. But I do agree, all forms of Made In Holland pasta sauce are the work of the devil.

To save Matt the trouble, here is one of his afternoon cappuccino pictures he sends me to get his name in the book.
