I know this is heresy on a car site. But, the obvious thing to do from Liverpool Street is to use the tube. Saying that, there's been weekend line closures for longer than I can remember. :D

With parking and toll charges, I find it easier to use a taxi, or the tube iff it's running and cost effective..!!

Yes agreed tube/taxi would have been better. But this was a Sunday and I was trying to do someone a favour by dropping them off at the Liverpool Street Tube after having lunch north of the city area!

No way it should take 40 minutes to travel 2.5 miles from there to anywhere on a Sunday. There must been hundreds of other poor gits stuck in the same misery as me.

I've learnt that lesson the hard way. The last time was dropping a friend around to Kings Cross which really should be a five minute spin from my place - but Thames Water conspired to turn it into 30 mins. It is quicker to walk.

I blame elf n safety. You see whole lanes closed, and alternating flow traffic lights inflicting misery in both directions, for a single parked compressor. I think contractors use those alternating flow lights because they can, if they had to pay a hefty license fee for each time they install one you'd quickly see they could get by without them.

This is the sort of thing I was referring to above. Two traffic lights, one lane closed, nothing happening. They set it up on a Friday evening and it's there all weekend, maybe something will happen on Monday.

They should have done it when they started, its the end of the year, budgets have to be spent so many things get done that dont need doing

Central London was chronic today, with illuminated signs warning of delays due to a 'Special Event' but no indication of what or when it was/is/will be; anyone know?

Maybe it was the closing of the bridge in my photo above!

AHA! 'Twas perhaps our learned friends of the Judiciary.

From TFL's website:
01/10/2013, 11:30 to 13:30
Abingdon Street
Event: The road will be closed in both directions to facilitate this year's Procession of Judges.

Like a tw*t tried to drive into town to meet a friend for lunch today. Mill Hill to top of Regents Street took 30 minutes. Top of Regents Street to Conduit Street turn off took 25 minutes. They closed the entrance to Conduit Street with no diversion signs. What f******s. Sorry for swearing but this contempt for the road user is an insult which I cannot stand for much longer. I am trying to figure how how to get revenge for this wilful contempt and incompetence.

We pay unbelievable rates of fuel duty, VAT, road tax, congestion charge, rates, council tax, parking fines for this sh*t? Really? Really?

Why on earth would you drive into London for lunch in midweek? There's a perfectly good public transport system that would take you from Mill Hill into town in about fifteen minutes. I'm meeting my other half for lunch on the South Bank tomorrow. I would no more drive there than I would gouge my eyes out with a rusty nail.

Why would you choose to put yourself in a position to be discomfited, when a fast, efficient alternative is literally right in front of you? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. You can't even enjoy a drink over lunch.
