4200 four wheel alignment

Had my rear tie-rod rose joint replaced today, grand total of £90 + £53 for the joint. I are a happy bunny.

The car feels far more sure footed (not that I'd noticed it not being previously) *but* It clearly needs tracking.

How much should I expect to pay for this? Hopefully Bill McGrath will be able to squeeze me in on Friday when I go to get my key coded.

TIA

Think mine was £180 three years back...high cost for four wheel alignment but due to the shim set required.

Just had my mk1 Golf done for fourty!

IIRC Mine was £95 a few years ago by a specialist with all the right kit (in Scotland).

I just went for a nearby tracking specialist, but I checked they had the Hunter Hawkeye kit. You can order the shims from Eurospares and if the garage you choose doesn't have the factory alignment settings to reference from, then I'm sure Bill McGrath would get them for you.

Agreed on the Hunter alignment machine, I wouldn't bother with anything else.

when I had my Alfa GT checked and adjusted the difference was night & day. Completely different car to drive afterwards.

I think our local place has the Hunter, but I don't have any shims, and I'm in CA next week. I was assuming that Mr McGrath may have a set?

I think you should reckon on £200 from an indie and probably £300-500 at a dealer.

Cman, I had an envelope of shims which I left at Marios of Autoshield as I'd no further use for them........if you're stuck and need them....give him a bell

Cheers Davy, and Frank. I *think* I have a plan that does not involve full castor and camber, but simply tracking at this point. Doesn't look like McGrath's can fit me in, but I know some people I trust with a Hawkeye :)

I can see the shims on Eurospares for the front, but are they available for the back from there as well? I can't even see them on the diagram, although there are 'washers' listed with differing thicknesses?

What's the normal deal? You buy a random selection, or do they com in kits, or does one expect an good indy / MD to have them to hand?

They just sent me a selection of 10/12 I think........not sure they have a lot as such or intermittent supply

What did it cost you in the end? Mine will be due again next year when I fit new tyres.
