Hi there:

I have been looking at Maseratis for around 4 months now, and haven't quite found the right one.
Richard G had a fantastic one, but I just missed out as I couldn't get up there in time.

Honest opinions - is there a big difference between the 4.2 and the 4.7 S versions?

Looks , sense of occasion and SOUND v important. But not so much the 0-60 time.

Would any of you remap the ECU on either? Would maserati give a warranty on a remapped one? Would they know?

There is a GTS I have my eye on , sub 33k miles and asking 40k. Is that a good price?

Hi Iain,

1. Yes there is a big difference between a 4.2 and 4.7...I have driven both and couldn't believe how different the 4.7 felt in speed, acceleration etc...The gear box on the 4.7 makes a big difference to the driving experience. I would drive both and see what you think but I wouldn't not have a 4.2 if I didn't have the cash for a 4.7 as it is still a great car but just has a different character.

2. Both look great and both have a sense of occasion when you look at and site in and drive them...Depends what you want as the 4.2 is a cleaner shape without the boot spoiler and side skirts where as the 4.7 looks more sports car than the 4.2's GT look......Sound wise the 4.7 just blows the 4.2 and most other cars away in sports mode.

3. A few have remap their 4.7 with different results......Dan found no difference to his 4.7 after paying out for one......others will be able to answer better than me but I would say that Maserati wouldn't warranty a remap car if they knew.

That is a good price but woud need to know more about the car as all depends on condition and history and most seems to start at 45k these days and have been for ages and show no signs of getting any cheaper still.

Welcome. Lots of answers to these sort of questions on here but they are all good cars. The 4.7 is hardly a sports car but it does go harder and faster and stops better. Worth it if you can. Which gearbox do you prefer with the 4.7?

Hard to value a car without knowing which gearbox, colour, options, clutch condition (if applicable), service history, vendor type (warranty?) and condition of brakes.

That looks a lovely car for the money Dave...

That is what I have been thinking Andy - all the planets wont align for me though - I could probably stretch (big stretch) but would mean some finance (I dont do finance - usually) but I start a new job (well - my old job) on Monday, so will be living away again and a GT simply will not fit in the garage - width wise!!!

I did post a link to it before and am surprised they still have it - may not be right up close perhaps.

I think I mentioned before I have seen this vehicle and it looks very good from an aesthetic POV
I have no idea of its history though
Alexanders are a decent outfit if sometimes a bit pricey
I do like the interior too
If anyone is seriously in the market this one is worth a visit

In fact I may do some man maths!

Dont let "Birdcage" here you, whey you compare it - I did a search on PH, all GT below £40k and I think it may be the only 4.7 car with those miles. Its 09 as well, there are plenty of 4,2 similar miles, older for similar price and always there will be a deal to be done.

The Alexanders car is not an MCS and for me you just have to get an MCS over the auto box.

The Trident wheels were quite a rare choice on the GTs but I really like them. It's a beautiful looking car - fantastic colour combo. Very refined, with just the right amount of aggressive. Worth a few k of finance, imho.

I know Phil - thought the OP wanted a GT S, I will not even pretend to understand the GT range once it has a 4.7 engine in it.

Its quite easy really. With the 4.7 coupe you get the auto or the MC (both as a GTS and then as the GT Sport from Sept 12) and then the Stradale.

Good luck with your search Iain and lots of good advise to be found, not just on this thread but elsewhere too.
You won't regret it and if you are able to stretch to a 4.7, you will be buying a fantastic car.
Keep us posted but drive a few and make your mind up as the engines and gear boxes are very different

From a gearbox perspective:

Auto - refined. Regular ZF auto box
MC - raw, but rewards and enjoys spirited driving. Robotised manual / semi-auto transaxle
GT Sport - ZF box with new software. Sort of best of both worlds, apparently
Stradale - as per MC but with different software.

Does look a great car and cracking value compared to the glut of 4.2's stuck around £35k and not shifting. Someone needs to snap it up...
