Well priced GS ?

Simon your car does not have HID lights from the factory. The factory kit is not just bulbs but also the rest of the system to make it compliant with the EU laws. This includes beam self adjusting to prevent dazzling and washers to ensure the beam is not deflected by dirt/grime...hence why its a £700/1,000 option on most cars. Its one of the reasons I did not buy your car and finding it hard to get a 4200/GS as I need the HID lights.

You can retro fit the bulbs and ballast, but given Italian electrics, and the MOT issues I am not prepared to go that way.

Thanks - I thought mine didn't have xenon/HID.

I'm tempted to upgrade the halogen bulbs for something with a crisper, whiter light - not sure if you can get LED for the dipped beam but otherwise I'm thinking a good Philips/Osram bulb maybe.

Though suspect that changing bulbs isn't an easy operation with these cars!

Wheels off, and through the arch liner. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to get a replacement for the dips. I'm not convinced how much of an improvement many of these things are, though.

GSs have always been slow sellers IMO. Like Matt, I watched prices before buying mine. Sellers often either don't reduce prices or reduce in the first 4-6 weeks, then sit tight.

If I was to sell mine, I would expect to have to wait a few months to get a buyer, or reduce the price far enough for a trader to be interested/ or for private buyer willing to take a quick punt.

As for mileage, I wanted 20-30k on mine when I bought it. It turned over 30k on the way to the inspection and now has over 50k on it. Some would say it's not worth owning.....I say it's not worth selling (to my wife, at least). They take the miles well IMO. If I was looking again, unless I was after a keeper to wrap up and barely use, miles wouldn't bother me, so long as it's been looked after.

I'm putting as many miles on mine as I can. I want to see how much abuse it can handle and for how long! It's got a tough year coming up; Le Mans, the Centenary and numerous weekend thrashes.

This question has always bobbed around it would appear. Personally I think the GS is maybe a tad slower to sell than say a 4200 due to the price difference, the GS commands a much higher price. Before I bought my GS and sold my 4200, I could not understand the difference between the two and why that difference could command so much more money..?? I know my 4200 being a late "Facelift" was very close to the specification of the GS, which made my dilema worse. I eventually asked opinions of others and drove a couple of GS's, I finally decided to take the plunge. Now owning the GS and driving it often, it becomes clear that the GS is an improved car and a great drive. Saying that the 4200 was a terrific car is true, but the GS is better and I am not just saying that because I have bought one..!! The fact that the GS is not an easy find, tells another story, if they were hard to sell there would be a stack of them around the country, that's not the case as Matt will tell you..!!
This car is well priced and if you want to get in to a GS then the mileage should not be an issue, IF IT HAS A GOOD HISTORY, IF NOT GET AN INSPECTION DONE BY AN INDIE..!!
The fact that it does not have Xenons is a shame, as they are much better with them. You can fit a Xenon kit but then you would trip up on the self levelling and the lamp wash requirement, some say that does not matter, but it depends where you get it tested..??

I just find it funny that every time there is a cheap one come up people will moan about the miles/colour/spec but then when ones come up that have the right miles/colour/spec and are more expensive they complain about the price. obviously it can't work both ways

Hodroyd, as your GS has a full Larini and the DMS remap do you find it noticeably quicker than the 4200 you owned?

The miles are fine...Would worry me as I said before.......You could buy one for 34k and that car still has some way to fall price wise as ou will drive it and will put miles on it...The grey car must be a better bet as most of the depreciation has been done....If you paid 18k for it kept it for 2 ears and put 10k on it you surely must still be looking at 15/16k coming back........2/3k less than you paid.....You couldn't say that with the cars costing 33/34k......Just buy and drive as thats what they were made to do.......

BRR,
It's really funny, but the GS does not actually feel as quick as the 4200, but is faster..?? I think it is the way the GS handles the power, it is a lot more controlled and well behaved than the 4200 was, at high speed it's quite a bit more stable too. No skittish activity at all so far, even on damp roads although I don't press the loud pedal full down in the wet..!!
Cheers

...I think a lot of the current market pricing is influenced by GranTurismo prices. 4.2 autos are still £35k at best for 2007/8 cars - way more than a 4200 cost at 6-7 years old.

A quick look at Autotrader shows quite a bit of discounting of early 4.2 GTs now the new year is here...at Least 6 at just above £30k, which given a little haggling could see most going for under £30k.
