No MOT needed on 40 years and older cars now. I do believe it has to be registered as MOT exempt with DVLA and this can be done by ringing 03007906802.Sorry I am behind on this now.
Simple question, my tax exempt 1969 (age 49) Opel GT now does not require an mot?
So I just tax it online (free) and away I go or do I not even have to do that now as long as it’s insured?
If you go onto the dvla website to tax it as usual you will be asked to confirm the vehicle has not been substantially modified. ( there is an explanation of what constitutes substantial modified)Sorry I am behind on this now.

You confirm it hasn't been modified and system then informs you an MOT is not required. You complete your taxation (no cost) and receive email/text conforming taxed for next 12 months.
I "taxed" several of my bikes at the weekend this way.
There are however some anomalies which will be clarified no doubt as system beds in.
For instance what happens if you decide to MOT your old vehicle and it fails? Do you need to sort and re test?
You have a vehicle which is mot'd and due a retest but is over 40 years old. Do you simply ignore the test? I am phoning Dvla today about some other matter so will see if someone there can advise.
I mot'd a vehicle yesterday and garage said they have no instructions on this.
I'm sure there used to be a formula for a Q plate in the past, depending on how many substantial components had been changed. What do you do if your old car is substantially modified and you just blag it and say no
How would they know?.. a mate has a 1990's Alfa 2Litre TSpark in his 1970 Giulia 1300!
He's not sure to blag it or not, as there was talk about you losing your original reg and be given a Q plate
