Morning all. Back with my nose to the grindstone today.
Yesterday was a good one. Despite the Brera not going to the paint shop as they are rammed at the mo, its been pushed to next Wednesday.
So this gave me time to button up the Brera running issues.
The engine is all good and the fidget list complete. I still had some starting issues half an hour into the warm down cycle and was also still loosing some coolant.
Warm Starting.
I installed a check valve (one way flow valve) just before the fuel filter and its sorted it. I finally have a fully starting Brera on the button everytime now. The issue was that the hot fuel was seeping back to the tank. The addition of a check valve stops this so fuel lines are always primed.
Coolant Loss.
I purchased a few weeks ago, a coolant pressure tester. Its a valve with a pressure gauge that attaches to a compressor and in turn to the expansion tank of the coolant system. You run it up to 1.5 bar with the engine hot and off so the thermostat is open. At first, nothing so I just left it to sit for half an hour pressurised. Came back and there was a puddle under the car which was easy to locate. It was a tiny hole in one of the minor pipes that goes from the head to the thermostat. Trimmed it and refitted...no leaks now.
Went for a long drive and everything was spot on!
I also previously sorted the rattle over bumps which turned out to be that some donut (no names but we know who you are) had fitted the rear DPF mount 180 degrees round the wrong way and was knocking against the gas line.
The Brera is now in rude health and just waiting for paint. I did the wheels a few weeks ago at home and very impressed with the results.
