Adam, not necessarily you can probably just put a new head (motor) on the motorised valve just most plumbers won't give you that option because it is a lot less money in their pockets!

It was the head and the valve - both goosed. Luckily the local plumber's a good bloke and a petrolhead. Luckier still, he had a new head and a valve in his van. Phew! Mind you, I haven't seen the bill yet...

Thanks Newton. And only a shade over £200, which is a blessed relief. Parts would have done me for half of that if I'd gone out to get them myself. Plus the remedial work after the flooding...

Nothing complicated about central heating, if you can work on your car you can manage heating...

When they came to change a gas meter very near me a few years ago there was a raised eyebrow at the soldered joints on the gas pipe to the boiler, they don't teach their people to solder any more! The fitter muttered something about naked flame and gas; he was asked what's the problem if the meter is removed and capped during the job and the area and pipe vented? I bet (know) it is a lot more gas tight than any compression fitting....

Central heating's a dark art as far as I'm concerned, Newton. It's kind of evolved in my house over many years and has ended up a bit Heath-Robinson.

Mine's like Trigger's broom! Most serviceable parts seem to get replaced every two years when they pack up. The PCB's the most frequent point of failure.

Morning Andy et al.

Hope the work goes smoothly my friend, and that your Dad has a great day!

Going out on the bikes later, after some food shopping. I loathe having to give up daytime to go to the shops because they don't open late in the evening.

Good Morning all.

My last half day at work today. I'll then be washing the Maserati at lunchtime once I've finished then if there's time it'll be clayed and waxed tomorrow. It's currently covered in a couple of weeks of road grime.

Morning everyone. WFH today and if I can find the time, helping Santa for the local 'village' this afternoon. It's normally good for a laugh.

Have a great day all.

Morning all

Xmas supermarket food shop done that was nasty!

Sainsburys was rammed to the gills with fidgeting kids, moody parents and dithering seniors. It's done now at least.

Got to hang the lights today, ferry kids around and fit in work.

Got the Alfa back from its suspension rebuild I need a top arm too now but it's so much better to drive already.

The nearside shock and lower arm were knackered.

Morning all. Suddenly turned manic. A potential client turned up yesterday morning and wanted a proposal from us by the end of the week. If it is accepted we start work in Jan. Great .... Was hoping for a quiet couple of days now it is manic. Worked till 1am yesterday. Same again today. Knew I should have packed over the weekend as I am leaving tomorrow afternoon. No time to pack now!

Just think of what we all could achieve if it wasn't for customer cluttering up our plans! I Feel your pain, though. Fortunately most of my customers and colleagues seem to be going on holiday, or at least will have done by the end of today.
