I used these guys, but there are plenty of places online to buy from.

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/

My biggest issue is knowing which products to go for when there are so many waxes, compounds, chemicals etc. to choose from. Many are not cheap, so some time spent researching can be well spent.

I've used them as well MAF....It is a mine field though knowing what to buy..

Over the last couple of years ive moved over from traditional waxes to Synthetic Sealants.

Gtechniq seems to have some amazing products. The C1 and EXO have extremely long durability. The C2 'only' has a life of 6 months but i prefer the look of the C2 on the car.

Or not knowing in my case!

I took a leaf out of your book and bought Dodo Juice - i was so impressed that i have now moved to their super natural hybrid (sealant and wax in one). I never thuoght i would like detailing but i'm really getting into it!

Having been so impressed with your car MAF, my box of goodies arrived today from i4detailing.co.uk ready to see if I can make mine look like yours!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow (foam that is!)

I've just read this post with great interest as like MAF I have been on the DetailingWorld site for a few years and follow the pro detailing processes and use the better quality products on our cars.

It is more expensive and time consuming to begin with, but the time and expense is worthwhile as the results are way better than what can be achieved with the methods I grew up using i.e. T-Cut and Turtle Wax.

Research DetailingWorld is highly recommended. I 'detailed' the CC last year, paintwork now looks great, like a show car.

I'd never ever let the EE sponge jockeys anywhere near the cars, not even the daily runner!

I gave mine a good detail on Sunday using the same system.
When I get chance I will upload some pictures to show the amazing difference.
The Iron-X was weird stuff, the whole car went purple at one point!

I've not tried Iron-X yet David - will look into this. But I would have thought the clay stage makes this somewhat unnecessary, although I suppose it does help to dilute some debris. And something you would only use occasionally pre machine polishing anyway.

Trust me, you'll be amazed when you use it. Clay won't remove the particles buried in the paint surface, whereas Iron-x will. Take a look at the early pics in this thread of my car - I thought it was spotless before I started cleaning with the various products! I reckon you only need to use Iron-x once or maybe twice a year. If you use it a second time you will need to give the car a full detail as you'll be stripping off any protection applied previously.

Clay comes in 3 grades - regular for heavy duty use (badly contaminated paintwork), medium and light. It removes all contamination on the paint. Try Bilt and Hammer MAF - you will realise there's no substitute for it. I'm not saying there isn't some benefit to Iron-X, but this wouldn't remove all debris from the paint alone just by spraying it onto the paint and rinsing. You feel and see the clay picking up crud as you take it over the paintwork. I definitely wouldn't machine polish without claying, you will just be polishing the crud into the paint causing more swirls than you started with.

I think Iron-X will be a useful addition though to use mid point between full details when I don't want to clay, every few months or so. I'll try it and report back.

Cheers, Simon

I may not have been clear. I don't recommend using Iron-x instead of clay, but have had good results from using it before claying. I was a clay convert some time back, but the Iron-x was a new addition to my growing collection of car cleaning goodies a year ago. If I'm going to strip all protection off the paint and start again (typically once a year) I'll use both each time.

What do you think Enzo, you're the professional detailer. Would you replace using clay with Iron-X only? Can it work as a midpoint quick cleanse? Always keen to learn more and see different products. It does sound like a nice addition to my stock ;-)

I'm interested in the Iron-X versus Clay methods, not that Simon and David are saying either is a replacement for the other.

For me, both roughly the same task in removing deposits buried in the paint but which one is easier, quicker, less labourious to get the required result. That's what I'm interested in.
I like to spend a dull day giving it a good wash but I'm not into wasting the day with my toothbrush knowing that it'll get dirty as soon as I drive it.
