I picked up my Larini rears from ebay so not too expensive. Well worth it, they taken me over to the dark side..... :jpbelial:

I am curious though about what difference an x-pipe would make...

Quite a bit but, if you have valved rears, it is very usable through towns with the valves shut.

I don't have valved rears so maybe x-pipe is a tad too much in this case. It's pretty tasty as it is so probably best I stick with current set up. I thnk you have valves Benny so you can control the volume when needed.

The only reason I would switch Larinis back to OEM is if I sold it. Love the sound and sharing it :alan4:

The sounds are great! I also modified my '04 Coupé short after buying it last year.
My exhaust dealer customized one for me.
And that's how it sounds:

Stage 1 : remove existing X pipe and fit SportsMaserati straight through X Pipe (£200)
Stage 2: fit modified GranSport rear boxes (£250 - exchange GS units required)
Stage 3: secondary cat bypass (£TBC)

Today I embarked on the beginning of the Stage 3 cat bypass sections.

Having the use of a 1200mm lift in my garage I got the car up and had the existing pipes off in under an hour:

The stage 3 decat pipes will be straight through with the squish pipes removes and replaces with twin 1-2 inch pipes.

It may need to go back for a silencer due to it being too loud and maybe offer one with sportscats in but we will do both and offer them at circa £4-500 for the pair meaning SportsMasearati will be able to offer a complete exhaust for under £1000 built in quality stainless.

Benny, ill get them shipped up to you tomorrow....should be with you Wed or Thurs

Matt, stage three for both Euro and US spec?
Are you looking at modifying the original on exchange or complete new replacement from manifold to X pipe?

Just the GS US spec pipes for now and they will be new and not cut up OEM pipes as you might need them at some point.

Hope not to be too controversial here, but concerning the change to the squashed section - I took my car to an exhaust specialist to look into replacing this section - when they put the car up on the ramp firstly they were impressed by the engineering that had gone into the squashed section and after taking some measurements told me the diameter of the squashed section is pretty much the same as the bore of the round pipe. They believe there is no benefit to changing this section for 2 smaller round pipes as per Larini as the exhaust gases will flow pretty much the same (and dare I say it that it's potentially more of a money making exercise than really adding any improvement...). I had the secondary cats removed which they did say would be an improvement though. They had 2 race cars in that they were making/had made beautiful exhausts and manifolds for, so them being bone fide experts in this field and me being a know-nothing but keen enthusiast I feel I can trust their opinion.

Skipping changing the squashed section could be looked at as a way of reducing the cost of the new system making it even better value perhaps..? In terms of all the other changes though there's no doubt these do make a difference.

Just some left-field thoughts that's all.... I'll be prepared to be shot down now... :battered: :battered:

May not effect the performance but may change the sound which for the majority is what there are trying to achieve .

My GS has sport back boxes and it is loud enough. There is no way i would change anything else as it already wakes up the neighbours! With my foot down it sounds fantastic and it pops and crackles on the overrun too. For me its perfect.....

Sound is a very personal taste. I love the sound of the Spyder just loud enough without going too far.

Apparently the neighbours know when I arrive home though :)
