Not trying to be a spoli sport but I would just say that listening to the a car sat in neutral with the throttle being bilpped is totally different to how a car sounds in normal driving conditions i.e. accelerating, decelerating, up and down the gearbox, pops and crackles and volume etc.

The clip I recorded of the same sat in my garage bears no reflection of how the car sounds on the road.

Matt has described how his sounds on the road but it's difficult to record and actually reflect this on a clip. I don't mean to be negative just to state that the clips shouldn't be taken as a guide to real driving sounds/experience.

Great thread guys, you've clearly put a lot of work into this for the benefit of all. Thanks.
Really interesting hearing the difference between them all....I have to say its option 5 for me.
Being a humble 4200 owner, without the benefit of switchable valves, I have to say Marios straight throughs were a quick and easy fit and sound similar. When I get around to it I'll post a thread, but I apologies now, I aint taking them off to do a comparison with the standard boxes...they're on to stay. :)

Yep I realise that I can't fit it to mine but was just stating which one I liked the sound of. I am going down the Larini race pipes route....

You won't look back Phil, quite subtle with the standard boxes but a definite improvement. I'm now deciding whether to go for Larini rear boxes or straight through pipes from Marios who I spoke to today, what to do???

You'll save your self over a grand(new) and get them next week if you go Mario......

I've got some GS standard back boxes kicking around if anyone is looking for parts to try this. I'm never taking the Larinis off so don't think I will ever need them!!!!

Oh, great effort guys. I'm with Benny here. Loud, loud, loud.

If anyone wants to offer an opinion it might be better to sort out a reference. I'm thinking along these lines;

(Video 3 is) Option 1: X-pipe and standard rears
(Video 4 is) Option 2: Standard centre and modified rears
(Video 5 is) Option 3: X-pipe and modified rears.

I reckon option 3 is the favourite so far, it certainly is mine!

Well done Matt and Ben. A truly informative post. Looking forward to getting mine done. I played the videos to the missus and even she had to concede that they sound better than mine (I'm taking it as the green light to go ahead).

Option 3 1st then option 5

Good work, many options

I must admit I like the more subdued approach, in fact I think the version on Matt's Spyder was just about the right balance but then again I would say that as I live with it day in and day out. I still love the snarl when revved hard and the subtle spit on the over-run and down change.

Marios suggested straight throughs for the 4200 at just £600. Seems very reasonable.

Too bad, it sounded great - were they from Marios too?

'Fraid not - I got them custom made locally, a reasonable job but not A1, I guess I got what I paid for (£400 fitted)

Do you get any droning?
I fitted these a few months back. Admittedly I don't have anything to compare them with, but I would say minimal drone. By adjusting revs/gear you can get the sound you want......I'm no hooligan, but i love the sound and have to drop the windows in town to hear the V8 rumble off the walls/buildings......it's not an every day car but I use it as much as the weather allows,, but even if it was everyday I don't think it would get too much. Sounds like option 3, video 5 in this thread.....

Option 3 sounds the best in my opinion.

No Al
It is a very nice sound under all loads. I'm trying to put a video together now and post it on here. The sound I've got already is only on idle and it was windy so not pure sound.
They were well worth it IMHO.
