Question of the day

Interesting it was not what I was looking for, Paddington Bear does have a Green Plaque at the Paddington station but I can find no evidence that it is a London Heritage plaque. Strangely Paddingtons creator Michael Bond does not have a plaque himself.

The other one I am looking for is a genuine Heritage Plaque

This may be utter nonsense, but I thought there had been one issued to mark where Bowie was first photographed as Ziggy Stardust?

Well, I have thoroughly researched this now, and the Sherlock Holmes one seems to be totally unofficial, and not recorded in the English Heritage database.

And the only other one that seems to somewhat fit the bill is also totally unofficial, and not in London.

But then again, the QM is always right.

(Oh, and you have to have been dead for 20 years to qualify, so Michael Bond will have to wait.)

That is the other one I was looking for.

There have been a small number of heritage plaques issued in London that are not part of the scheme now run by English Heritage but have been issued by other organisations.

OK, I didn't ask which blue plaque, nor which English Heritage plaque. There are a small number of heritage plaques that relate to events, groups or people and fictional characters, these are normally not blue although the Sherlock Holmes one is.

Based on my understanding of the question there are actually 3 correct answers, Sherlock Holmes, Ziggy Stardust & Paddington Bear and therefore 3 potential winners Catman, Navcorr and JonW so can one of you step up to set the next question please?

Well you did say 'English Heritage plaque' in the question! So I was wrong as well :)

What everyday (although less so in the modern age) item is John Walker credited with inventing?

Was it a Handbag? And did he invent it really early in the morning?

There is a John Walker heritage plaque on the wall down the road from me.
It is not in London, it is not Blue, it is not an English Heritage one either.

I had no idea on the plaque question other than the Sherlock Holmes one.
Looks like there may be two blue plaques for Sherlock. The second being an address where the character retired. The Ziggy and Paddington plaques as already mentioned and then this one for Lara Croft.

Interesting question.
