If it's drag racing you're after buy a Dodge or a Tesla. I think a 430 or a Cali are more than quick enough for the UK's roads and its laws, and usually more than enough for the capability of the driver. I regularly hear from people that want a car that works in the real world and not just on a stat sheet. Lots of modern cars are so darn quick that you have to be doing 100mph+ to get any enjoyment out of them. The best thing about our cars are you don't have to go warp speed to induce a smile. I've been lucky enough to drive some properly quick cars, McLaren, Atom, Tesla P100, all of which are great to have a go in, but just too quick for the roads and my abilities.

I know that but it still doesn't wow me like say the 360 doesn't. Just personal preference, the 599 and 458 on the other hand left me shaking like a ******** dog!

I actually can't see me owning any of the mid engined exotic or semi exotic cars. There is an issue with image for the really fancy stuff and how people react to them and once i started looking into it they are all too wide for the roads up here - would lose wing mirrors all the time.

Had a drive of a large chassis Caterham Seven recently and that was a delight.

I agree re the Ferrari brand - great brand ruined to an extent by some of the people that drive them and the negativity that creates and, I believe, increasingly their and the dealers behaviour to sell cars, eg forcing wealthy people to buy cars they don't want in order to qualify for the specials, and other such practices. You do start to wonder about the ethicality of some of this. If it was corporate to corporate to get a deal done I suspect it might contravene the Bribery Act! And presumably this indicates they are producing (more) cars that people don't want to buy?

I agree totally. It's strange the more I talk to the main dealer - they just don't seem to get it. I would just like one because I think they are good cars. I don't want to compete with others In Terms of spec, or how soon I can have one.
I have a certain amount I think each car is worth and that's it.

Crazy isn't it, 2-3 year old cars selling for 3 x list price! They're just investment commodities for some.

That's the really sad thing richard. The mileage issue on them. People are scared to drive them - or just buy them purposely not to drive. Ridiculous concept. Surely these ‘modern' Ferrari's should have 150,000+ Miles in them. And yet consumers are programmed to be shocked if they are over 20,000

Here is one for you, if the facelift GT had had the 3.8TT engine in it, another 100hp and a mid 3's 0-60 but lost the sound and the MC gearbox and most of its charisma, would you pay another £50k premium for it.

As Athol says, the novelty would wear off pretty quick and I fear I would miss the charms of the outgoing model?

My car is plenty fast for me. I've owned faster cars but didn't get the same enjoyment once that initial "Wow" phase has worn off. The combination of looks, noise, rarity etc makes it something of a bargain I think. I would buy an FF (or better yet a GTC4Lusso) if they were 100k but the prices are still just too high for me to feel comfortable and so it looks unlikely to happen any time soon. Given the amount of cars i've owned and the relatively short time of ownership of many, i'm amazed that there is nothing around that scratches an itch to change. I also think i'd miss the Stradale if I did change so it's sticking around for some yet.

Like many, an Alfieri or a GT with a serious engine upgrade could make me change however I fear that these will be too expensive new and my sensibly hat will wait for someone else to take that first year hit.

I suspect that a daily driver QP or Ghibli is on the horizon long before a change in the Stradale.

Although I have never owned a strad- I can totally see where you are coming from. The price difference is hard to stomach.
I must be honest when I look back at my GTs with the bits and bobs on it- it's ridiculous the value it was compared to cars treble the price. I have tried to like the FF , but agree with you they are just too much at the moment. And the future value is less clear as the miles creep up. I was having a joke with my wife that if I got one - I would hire a covered transport up to Manchester in it to see the in laws. And we could drive out at the other end. It was meant as a joke- but then when I did some basic sums- it worked out cheaper than driving it there. Now that's mind boggling

Agree Matt. The sound and feeling of the MC shift isn’t met by other cars.
You have got me looking at strads again...

Well thats good to hear. My Strad will be sticking around for at least another year, I do get so much pleasure from it and as you quite rightly point out, when its gone, Ill yearn for another so why go through the agro.

Still worth what I paid for it over a year ago so its all positive so far :)

Buy a Strad Iain, you won't regret it. You clearly have always regretted selling your GTS, and you've now had a period without one so it will feel “new†to you again.

You aren’t wrong. A major reason I am worried about getting a Ferrari again is what people would think of me driving it.
150k to be self conscious would be difficult after the first couple of weeks of in wore off!
If only I was anywhere near somewhere that sold strads that I could pop to and take one out. Thank got I don’t live in Yorkshire! Being too close to GC motors and Redline would be bad for my bank balance.

I love backing the Strad out of the garage and changing from R to 1st and hearing the clunk/click as it moves out of and into another gear.

Why are you thinking of changing? Just fancy a change?
I think people need to get together and formca car club so dealers don’t keep taking everyone’s pants down on part exes.
They often don’t even polish the car. I have seen 6 figure Ferrari’s up at main dealers with the bolsters on the seats with the colour worn clean off. It’s mind numbing

That's nice but you'd need to get some black wheel centres. Buy it buy it buy it buy it buy it....

Lol I called yesterday and it had a new engine 3k miles ago... As I said, great for a new owner but not ideal when selling (matching numbers...) so I will swerve it.

I like to do my homework on any car I buy so I always start looking into things 18 months before I change(I know I'm a geek aren't I)
Maserati dont seem to have anything on the horizon to replace the Strad so looking at Fezza but peoples perceptions seem to be putting me off now.
The public look at Maserati and 99% of those adore the looks, sound and rarity but if the public look at people driving Fezza's and think 'C?ck' then I think I'll give that marque a wide berth.
Which leaves me looking at what? Not sure now. I can't keep the Strad too long as it'll get too much mileage on it and I'll get bored.

I thought about a Macca 12c but I think I've heard horror stories about those too.

The 12C is just so much car for the money! Until it goes wrong, and then it's the other way round. Check the price of a new battery.

I'm very much enjoying my Vantage. It has that slightly 'old school' feel of the GTS, with the semi-auto box, N/A engine, an intoxicating noise and lots of comfort. It's also a nice size and, so far at least, seems not to irk the general public in much the same was as the GTS didn't. I'm very pleased that I changed.
