I agree re the Ferrari brand - great brand ruined to an extent by some of the people that drive them and the negativity that creates and, I believe, increasingly their and the dealers behaviour to sell cars, eg forcing wealthy people to buy cars they don't want in order to qualify for the specials, and other such practices. You do start to wonder about the ethicality of some of this. If it was corporate to corporate to get a deal done I suspect it might contravene the Bribery Act! And presumably this indicates they are producing (more) cars that people don't want to buy?

What pees me off about Ferrari is the club mentality. It's a brand now for those who are in the club with a points system for buying the car. So you want to buy a new 488 Pista, sorry sir you can't because you have never bought another Ferrari before or been on the professional driving course and earnt points that way etc....

blimey Phil your getting racey - the 430 I drove a couple of weeks ago was manic and the fastest gearbox ive ever used, quicker than a 570s.

Not racey when you see a C63 AMG take one down you do begin to wonder.....

the 458 is in a different league compared to it. I feel the 430 is just long in the tooth now and doesn't wow me at all.

430 or Cali Phil, it's down to individual taste, and I do think there are nice examples of either to be had for that kind of money if you shop around.

My brother had a 2006 F430 he bought in 2012 from a main Ferrari dealer, it was a lovely car but it did seem to be jinxed, first problem that arose after a couple of months was a suspension related warning light which was sorted by Colchester Ferrari but when he went to pick it up they informed him the manifold was cracked, after a bit negotiating dealer paid for new manifolds and my brother paid for the labor to fit them(he thought that everything would be covered with the warranty) next up was the rust bubble that appeared on the wheel arch, not sure my brother was ready for that, the car was six years old so I suppose these things happen but the final straw came when an old bloke up the road didn't pull the handbrake on full in an old Merc which rolled down the road and smashed into the front of the Ferrari.
Sad day when he traded it in but my brothers first venture into Ferrari ownership wasn't meant to be.

If it's drag racing you're after buy a Dodge or a Tesla. I think a 430 or a Cali are more than quick enough for the UK's roads and its laws, and usually more than enough for the capability of the driver. I regularly hear from people that want a car that works in the real world and not just on a stat sheet. Lots of modern cars are so darn quick that you have to be doing 100mph+ to get any enjoyment out of them. The best thing about our cars are you don't have to go warp speed to induce a smile. I've been lucky enough to drive some properly quick cars, McLaren, Atom, Tesla P100, all of which are great to have a go in, but just too quick for the roads and my abilities.

Crazy isn’t it, 2-3 year old cars selling for 3 x list price! They’re just investment commodities for some.

Compared to the other cars discussed, it probably represents the best value.

Are they any good though Dicky?
I've been searching recently for my next car and I think the Cali T will still be a little out of reach for me and reading previous statements on this thread Fezza are very mielage sensitive and the marque seems to attract "c?cks".
As my wife quite rightly states why buy a nice car if you cant really enjoy it and get some miles covered.

Depends on how you drive your cars. Personally an earlier Cali appeals to me more as I would be more inclined to give up a bit of handling finesse to stay in a n/a car.

My car is plenty fast for me. I've owned faster cars but didn't get the same enjoyment once that initial "Wow" phase has worn off. The combination of looks, noise, rarity etc makes it something of a bargain I think. I would buy an FF (or better yet a GTC4Lusso) if they were 100k but the prices are still just too high for me to feel comfortable and so it looks unlikely to happen any time soon. Given the amount of cars i've owned and the relatively short time of ownership of many, i'm amazed that there is nothing around that scratches an itch to change. I also think i'd miss the Stradale if I did change so it's sticking around for some yet.

Like many, an Alfieri or a GT with a serious engine upgrade could make me change however I fear that these will be too expensive new and my sensibly hat will wait for someone else to take that first year hit.

I suspect that a daily driver QP or Ghibli is on the horizon long before a change in the Stradale.

Performance is always compelling but it wears off as you say. The recent Autocar road test of the GranTurismo pointed out that it is no longer a fast car but it is fast enough for me and I love the n/a power delivery. However, loads of people buy cars on 0-60 and max power (cock out in the pub chats) and Maserati needs to up its game with the new Coupe to 550PS ish.

Don't believe everything you read. They did rise but they are struggling price wise now. A friend was bid only £60k on his that he bought for £82k 2 years ago by two main dealers against a 458. The main dealers don't want them as they can't sell them at the moment.

That's exactly why I'm interested in them now. The price people put 430's up for sale for is what they would like.
The price they sell for is normally much lower.

The bills scare me on a non warrantied 12C!

I'd love a new 570 or 650S with a warranty though. Got to try different cars for sure...

Main dealer margins are £15-20k+ so it's underlying price is flat. Agree about the sentiment though as lots of people piled in thinking they were bright enough to make a load of money with the car itself being slightly irrelevant.
