Strange that and how image differs in the country.....Couldn't be further from the truth down here. My XE has nothing but positive comments from people and the F type I drove did the same the day I had it. Image never really bothered me as long as it was a great car to drive and I liked the way it looks. Deny yourself to many great cars if you worry what others think.

I think it depends on how far back you look. For me Jaguar is a great brand with a great image, I would happily own one. It does have the legacy issue like rusting Alfas and antique dealer Volvos. All irrelevant to me, I am interested in the here and now and would take a Jag over any of the German brands.

Never thought I would say that BB but I agree after owning the XE.....They now have a great range of cars and in my eyes great looking....and they now also dealer the goods as well as looking good. The only thing is the quality is not quite German standards but not far off.

I'm chuckling to myself that guys on a Maserati forum are slating Jaguar for poor residuals :) The QP is one of the worst depreciating cars you can buy in the UK and the GranTurismo I bought at two years old had lost its first owner approx £35-40k.
I had my F-Type V6S for 13 month and lost around 10% of its new price of just over £60k, that was paying full list as discounts were zero at launch, I'd added around £4K of extra toys so the percentage I lost would have been far less if it had been totally standard. Admittedly the V8 hasn't faired as well but still commands around 60% after 3 years which is no better or worse than many cars out today. The V8S convertible prices haven't shifted for a year and I suspect the V8 Coupe prices will hit £50k and stay put for a while. I'm thinking of getting another F-Type, loved mine and regret selling it TBH.

Hi Lofty....I'm not slating them that's for sure.......I think the V8 will stay around 50k as well for some time with the odd one with high miles taking a hit....How did you get on with the V6S......Bueatifully balanced car I thought.

Oh and I didn't realise the early Convertable V8's were also called S not R...That came with the Coupe and another 50 bhp. Those early V8's at 43k plus seems a lot of car for the money.

The early F type V8S need watching as they will spin on a penny. I assume that's why they gave it AWD.

Had heard that Benny.....They gave FWD after the Coupe came out with the 550 bhp and the R name. The S Convertable had 500 bhp I believe but I think a few 'inexperience' owners ended up facing the wrong way so jaguar thought they better offer AWD.....But this may not be true as just the word on the forum streets which as we know could be utter b0ll0cks.

It was a great car and I still miss it, it will be coming up 3 years since I took delivery. It got a bit too much attention with it being one of the first coupes but I coped :) I loved the noise and had the loud button pressed almost all the time, although I know it annoys some with it being a bit manufactured but I think that is true of many cars today. The fit and finish was good (apart from the larger than usual panel gaps) and I never had a single problem, the first service was £199 which was a nice shock. It was pretty easy to get the tail out on the V6 so the early V8 could be a handful I'd imagine. The V8S convertible hit the £40k mark and bounced back slightly to where prices are now, they haven't moved for a good while, as you say it's a lot of car for the money, I still think the V6S is the sweet spot though, great looks, enough power for the road, reasonable running costs and better residuals, having said that a used low mileage V8 won't cost the earth now they have taken the hit, buy from a Jag dealer and get 2 years warranty, what's not to like :)

I was told that the V6 had too much chassis for the engine, the V6S was on the money and the V8S had too much engine for the chassis. A good friend of mine bought one of the first V8s', hated it, pxed it after 3 months and dropped £20k. He wasn't happy! Also, it doesn't seem to have a lot of luggage space when 'doing' Europe.

The convertible has pathetic luggage space, the Coupe isn't too bad, not as good as a Cayman though.

That's the snag, I would only go for the drop top.

Personally I wouldn't. I think the coupe looks better, and as lofty says the convertible has pitiful luggage space. Mind you, that V8 soundtrack in a soft-top would be nice.

These days I wouldn't do a Euro tour in a hard top, so that's why I haven't considered an F type.

Not sure if you know but looking at the V8 S roadster the first ones don't seem to have the active exhaust button on the console. Did they not have this....? ....Did they still sound good as good ?

I think the V6S and V8S came with the active exhaust but the switch was an option on both, I definitely remember speccing it. I seem to remember it becoming standard on the facelift V6S but I'm not sure about the V8 as the model line up changed. The switch made a big difference to the noise, I wouldn't buy one without it, having said that there may be a fix now or a fuse that can be removed.
