Hello,

When I explain CC to friends as a sporty manual transmition with electronically operated clutch with sensors, I get empty looking eyes or questions like is it DSG or like Selespeed of Alfa.

Please help me to be explain better and also if any other car brand is using the similar system with a different name.

Thanks in advance for your support

I believe Ferrari uses the system in the 355 / 360. Correct me if I am wrong?

Its the geniuses of the Alfa selespeed, we all have to start somewhere.

Magnificent gearbox and one of the best bits of Maserati ownership over the past decade.

Also used by Aston Martin in the Vanquish of the day.
Believe it was licensed to BMW who made mods for it to become the SMG gearbox.

Correct, Maserati have been following BMW gearboxes for a while now as the 3200 manual also appears in the old M5.

The SMG had a setting where you could adjust the ferocity of the changes which would have been handy on the CC.

Strange, I just picked up a solid but scruffy 156 Selespeed SW and love the gearbox!
Very smooth when driving gently and nicely quick when booting it. I am pleasantly surprised.

Just wait when you coast towards a roundabout in 2nd gear, put your foot on the accelerator and all that happens is the revs climb but you don't go anywhere. Then it remember it needs to engage the clutch and jolts you forwards. Also in auto mode it is diabolical.

My 4200 does that in second as well. Only in second, mind.

The 3200GT uses a Getrag gearbox which was also used in the E39 M5.

The SMG-2 box used on the CSL and M5 (E6x) had a really fast change in mode 6 (could only be enabled with traction disabled) and it was ferocious.

The CC box is slow in comparison to alot of newer DCT and DSG boxes.

The 156 selespeed is easily the worst gearbox i have ever experienced. I cannot put in to words just how bad it is.

I can fecking sh1t.....OK perhaps I had a nasty experience with the one we had but to be honest the changes were sh1t.....MAnual was a million times better.

Blimey, so much Selespeed hate! Maybe I wasn't expecting much, so am pleasantly surprised, but I really enjoy driving it.

Is the CC better than the SS?

I found the CC box in the 4200 Facelift and the GS to be excellent, never had any gear not working as it should and when pushed hard in sport the changes are instant.!! Sounds like some of you need some adjustment to clutch chaps and maybe gearbox oil level checking..??
