How to explain Cambiocorsa....

The system was designed and manufactured by Magneti Marelli as is called AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). It has been fitted to brands such as...

Alfa (Selepseed)
Maserati (Cambiocorsa)
Ferrari (F1)
Lamborghini (E-Gear)
BMW (SMG)
Aston Martin (Sports shift)

The operating principle of each system is pretty much the same and diagnostic software from one can usually be used on other brands.

I found the CC box in the 4200 Facelift and the GS to be excellent, never had any gear not working as it should and when pushed hard in sport the changes are instant.!! Sounds like some of you need some adjustment to clutch chaps and maybe gearbox oil level checking..??

Pretty convinced mine is a miss in the code. I can virtually force it to do it 9 times out of 10. It just doesn't handle one specifc set of circumstances well. At all other times, I love it :)

Hello,

When I explain CC to friends as a sporty manual transmition with electronically operated clutch with sensors, I get empty looking eyes or questions like is it DSG or like Selespeed of Alfa.

CC gearbox = Clunk Click on every trip ;) I'm joking although the Alfa selespeed variant of the gearbox was a bit like that.

Thanks to all for making it clear for me and I will be happy to mention above as the examples from the Sports car World and leave the bad cousin Selespeed :1392:

Is there a video/animation which shows how the system works?

There are a couple of videos on youtube here but there doesnt seem to be an animation or powerpoint demo of the system.

Think of the cambio corsa as a robot butler that changes gear for you when you flick the paddles up or down.

The Ferrari software version of the gearbox is Usain Bolt as the butler. The Maserati version is Linford Christie. Still fast but not as fast as the Ferrari version.

The Alfa selespeed version is Parker from thunderbirds very slow with jerky movements.

Think my 4200 could do with an adjustment doesn't feel quick even in sport

I think loads of it is perceptual as you're not doing the clutch down, move the lever, clucth up thing, never mind the decision of what gear is next and the throttle feathering. You're just pressing a button and waiting.

But they do rather get fast*er* when correctly set up. Mine will give a very clear thump in the back even four up.

How to explain...it's a conventional dry clutch and gearbox, both hydraulically operated and controlled by a electronic control module.

And often operated with no sympathy or understanding of the components mentioned above !

Huh? That's rather the point, surely. The TCU handles all that complicated rev matching and clutch engagement.

Indeed, in a crude fashion, compared to later flappy paddles it needs to be driven. Just my thoughts mind

Spot on, it's nothing like a DCT or DSG in that you just pull, with the CC and Semi auto boxes with clutches you need to change in a sweet spot rev range and also lift off slightly otherwise it is jerky.

You really *really* don't need to lift off you know.

Not even sure about the sweet spot, frankly. Sure you're going to accelerate faster, but that's the same with any engine / box combo, surely. Shift just as you head over peak power.

I didn't say you need to lift off, I said it is smoother if you lift and or change in the sweet spot.

You can't change gear on a CC below 4k even in sport mode and not lift off slightly to get a smooth change. Or should I say a smooth change without weird engine revs. You would in a normal manual so not sure why the CC should be any different. It is still a manual box. Above 4k it seems fine in sport mode.

Lift off slightly at lower revs works for me and I get perfectly smooth changes. I love the box as it is not perfect and has character so adds more driver involvement. You have to think about it a bit. Had both a DSG & S-Tronic & both great gearboxes but soulless & too good really to get any driver involvment in the process.

The SMG in my E60 was worse and better than CC depending on conditions. Never use auto but auto was worse in the SMG.
With engine on top mode and gearbox in top mode at full tilt I have never experienced a car, engine or gearbox like it. Absolutely intoxicating and quite brilliant IMHO. The shifts were like someone was changing gear with a sledgehammer they were so brutal. I winced each time & really felt for the poor thing.

It was so hard not to wind that thing up every now & again though...what a machine. Still very tempted to get another back. My brother has just got in a mint M6 in part-ex back for a motor he sold this customer. If it had been under £20k I would have had it.

How did you get on with yours when you had it?
