Hit a curb...

I was going round a corner and discovered that it was a little tighter than expected. Understeered and made contact with a curb, both outside wheels. Best case scenario I need one new front wheel, refurb at the back, one new tyre and geometry. Car felt fine after, but can't say for certain nothing else was damaged.

If there are no other problems then I'd chalk this up to experience, get the work done and continue to enjoy the car in the long June evenings. But if I've damaged the suspension I guess I could be looking at £3.5-5k total or more and that would make it economic to claim and lose my no claims bonus.

Do I need to tell my insurer on Monday morning? Really don't won't the car out of action for no reason. But I suppose I can't send the car to a specialist to inspect the damage first?

Can't offer a lot of advice other than get it on a ramp and have a good look at it before you put a claim in , have you cracked a wheel or just broken the bead on the tyre

Tell your insurer. Greasy road. Can't imagine the hike being 3.5k for a claim.

And it is what happened. Wasn't it?

You don't have to notify your insurer you've clipped a kerb if all you've done is puncture a tyre and kerb a wheel , you can choose to notify them you may have caused additional damage and will be getting it checked out before making a claim but make certain they know you're not actually claiming at his point.

You will probably have to spend the next 3-5 years filling out yes to have you had any accidents to every quote though one you notify them

Check it out first then make the decision.

Edit: ouch, those wheels don't look very good though.

So that would be acceptable for an insurance company? Report it a few days later once I know the extent of the damage?

not pretty but can be repaired as long as it's not buckled , sand fill and paint

Just replacing those wheels will probably need a claim

Ouch that's one **** of an understeer situation. Check the overall damage before discussing with Ins. Co.

Yes be wary of ringing insurance, as they will put it down as an accident probably for next few years

The wheels look repairable to me, should only cost £200 or so

The wheels look like an easy repair to me, doesn't look like they are at all bent. I've had alloys repaired that were a lot worse than that, with straightening required.

Check the wishbones for any cracking esp around the bush joint.

^^^this, a very important point. As you will have to get the geo redone, remove both upper and lower, fully clean and check the hub where the steering arm connects.

Seeing the other thread I would even go as far as having the steering arm replaced as a matter of course, for my own sanity. As Matt has said have the lower and upper arms off and inspected at the same time, the geometry will also need to be checked.

I'll have Lepsons take a look at the wheels and then get the car booked in to Giallo for suspension check. With my excess and the cost of losing NCB, it makes sense for me to fund anything under £2k.

It was kind of a glancing, scraping impact and not at particularly high speed so fingers crossed.

Will just have to take it out of the sports cats/respray/4.7 engine swap fund...

I can help you save money on the 4.7 engine swap. Don't do it! An engine will cost £5k minimum and you get 40bhp extra for that. Nobody knows whether they can be mated to the 4.2 electronics, so a fair bit of labour to get that sorted. 4.7 engines then come with potential variatior issues, another £3.5k if you're unlucky. I've looked into this extensively and have decided against it. I'll either supercharge mine or buy a Huracan if I want something faster.

Don't worry, the 4.7 engine swap comment was somewhat tongue in cheek. Lottery win/two or three promotions at work will be required.

But with my understeer issues a Huracan is the last thing I need! :)
