Hit a curb...

So what was the cause?
Tyres?
Road conditions?
User error?

Well.... Probably didn't help that it had rained earlier in the day and that this section was shaded by trees. Don't think it would have happened if the road had been bone dry. Been driving a lot on warm evenings and getting a lot of grip from the new Goodyears.

But you drive according to the conditions.

User error.
If u hit anything else it's hard to deny fault.....mitigating circumstances perhaps, but you're at the wheel and in charge.

Could have been a lot worse.....PITA tho, hope you get it all sorted.

Sorry to hear that but as others have said, they do look repairable and if it was at low speed & a glance, I wouldn't expect a crack - more lucky just a buckle at worst.
Good luck

I asked as I have just fitted the same rubber.

I hardly ever drive the car in the wet so can't compare it to other situations or the old Michelins. I suspect the tyres were not at fault though. It was smooth, new tarmac with wide road markings and probably made greasy by the rain.

Put your hands up, doesn't matter. Everyone with a car passion has made an error at some point and either got away with it or not.
Thankfully, not too much damage was done( apart from pride), no one was hurt and you're older and wiser....like the rest of us.
Kinda reminds everyone on here what might be around the next corner so fair play for posting.

Oh yeah, I'm not blameless! Just wanted to make clear that the tyres weren't to blame - in those conditions they couldn't have found the kind of grip they generate in the dry and I should have known that.

Balls. On seeing the car Matthew reckons I've bent the rear control arm... at least the Eurospares pattern part is significantly cheaper than OEM. I suspect the total bill is going to be somewhere in that area where it's expensive, but not expensive enough to cover my excess and loss of NCB. And my car will be out of action while the evenings are long..... :frown:

Sorry to hear that but better to find out that it needs to be replaced rather than being behind the wheel when it fails.
I hope that the bill isn't too high and that you have it back soon

Damaged rear lower arm, front bearing carrier and front track rod end. Plus wheel repairs, and will obviously need alignment. About £3k. Ouch! :battered:

But will hopefully have the car back in a week.

Surely it's worth a claim for 3k , you only lose 20% NCB not all of it

I've got quite a big excess and my insurance premiums will go up a lot without the NCB (got a few quotes based on an estimated repair bill of £3.5k from this incident). The claim could easily cost me £2k+ over the next few years.

There's also the time factor. The car wasn't geting much use before the evenings got light a few weeks ago and I could go for a 2 hour drive on pretty much deserted roads after putting the kids to bed. I can get the car back next week and use it a lot before I go on holiday in July. Or I can involve the insurers, things will probably drag on and then that will be it for the long evenings. I've spent a lot on the car and want to drive it.. some people would spend £5k on a family holiday. I'm taking the hit and losing less than that to get in some good driving time with the car. Obviously if we get nothing but rain for a fortnight I'll be feeling like a right idiot...

I can see your logic there , I've got mine insured as a modern classic, there's no NCB involved but I think classics are those kind of policies that if you claim you'll never get insured again on a classic policy , mine is £400 a year.

If you're paying for 3k claims yourself it might be worth considering next year if your car is eligible

Seems that the quote was based on using an OEM wishbone, but Eurospares pattern part has now been ordered. £700 price difference. Result!
