To be clear, I don't think all car drivers hate all cyclists. But it's very easy for a minority of cyclists who use the roads selfishly to give all cyclists a bad name.

To clarify I never cycle on road: I am a mountain biker.

To me the truly selfish people are those numb nuts individuals who can't wait 90 seconds to overtake a road cyclist safely and (for example) over take on blind turns. It happens almost constantly in the Surrey hills; motorists are in too much of a hurry all of the time they would rather risk lives and property so they can get get to whatever shithole they are trying to get to.

Having your cycle insured for theft is not the same as being insured to cover damage or injury to others - a quick Google states less than 50% are insured and most of that is just cover for the bike.
Any cyclists with any money can’t afford not to be insured for third party damage!
If I injure someone or damage property I would fully expect to be sued and that could be very expensive if say I cause brain damage or something.
There for even though I am only an occasional cyclist I am insured third party.

I can only speak for myself and those in the cycling club I am a member of.

If you are a British Cycling registered club, then you have similar cover a car would, accidental damage, injury etc.
The clubs seem to be the ones getting the most stick and they're the ones who are the ones who comply with all that the angry motorist wants!

A cyclist is very unlikely to cause a motorist a brain injury (for example).
The motorist has the insurance cover as they're the most likely to cause the damage.
And why the minimum requirement for a motorist is Third Party Insurance.

I was insured through my club and personally for cycling.
The odd thing is, no one seems to think dog walkers should be insured, at least that’s what I found out when I had a shitzu thing wrapped round my handlebars and a woman screaming at me. She thought it was perfectly reasonable that her dog should pi55 against a tree on the other side of the cycle path she was walking alongside. And that I should have been able to see the thinnest 6m of dog walk lead in the world. Looking back it would have made a great comedy sketch. Apart from the broken forks, helmet and ego.

Sorry, you miss understood.
The reason I have third party cycle insurance is in case injure anyone, most likely a pedestrian, I agree highly unlikely to be a motorist.

Most cyclists are also insured. No one pays road tax. It's an emissions tax now.

No idea where you getting your figures from. Simple google search indicates that 61% of cyclists do not have insurance to cover theft of their bikes let alone insurance to cover accident damage or injuries to other parties.

Pedalsure according to their research suggest the figure for 3rd party insurance is around 15% of the 12 million cyclists.

How many kids bikes are insured for 3rd party damages is anyones guess at a percentage.

Most of both ilk are sensible but from my experience there are clearly motorists who just hate cyclists. You don't see Cars etc. tangle with a horse or a tractor as they can do a lot of damage. They don't need an excuse to be a dick as they are in a car and feel protected which gives them the balls to do what they do. When they are stopped they are never as brave. Plenty of motorists who don't stop at reds or move into the correct lanes but i guess they are not as easy to drive off the road as bikes.

They are not cycle lanes. They are roads made smaller. Cycle lanes here in Denmark are up to 2 m wide. Raised from the road with a separate walk path as well. In the UK they just put a line down side of the road, call it a cycle lane and make it more dangerous for everyone. Just councils
Being pc and saving money.
