No probs, maybe the mounting bracket has been moved/bent to get access at some point?

I had to remove the expansion tank to fit the secondary air valve as it is so tight.

on the GS and face lift 4200 you access the resistor by removing the under tray and unbolting it that way.

The older 4200s were just behind the grill.

So it overheats when driving along?

The fans are only required when stationary or slow I.e no air flow.

If that's the case it would be worth bleeding the cooling system, there are those plugs on each bank, if needed I'll take a photo for you.

Also use an i.r thermometer to check actual temps in case of faulty gauge/ sender.

.don't buy the Maserati resistor the Alfa one is identical for 1/4 of the price, check the eBay link I posted earlier

not letting it over heat too much, as soon as it gets to 95 and looks like its about to climb over I stop.... not taking any chances until I know the work I've done hasnt caused any issues.

I normally hear my fans around 90 or when putting into garage due to air-flow. I didnt touch the cooling side and only recently had it replaced. i think their is bleed values which on F430 (googling) is at the front below the head on the left bank. is this correct ?

yet also tried IR and seeing 70+ at top and around front but didnt check the rad - will check that.

ref alfa part, i wanted to speak to tech support via parts to see if resistor was the right thing and maybe seems not ?

It is unlikely to be sure.

The Alfa part is much cheaper

C

thank you both, will look into alfa part as its cheaper and at least this is then ticked off.....

Yes correct location, but one bleed bolt on each bank, the near side is the same place but hard to see, it can still be reached with a spanner.

Understand being cautious, hopefully only a sender.

The resistor is an Alfa part, easy to change, my fan used to run only at high speed, was corroded so see this as most likely. Assume normal temps when moving at reasonable speed?

Sat just behind the rad

part hopefully due tomorrow, just got the old part out, not sure about easy, rusty screws that you can't see.... took a while....

part looks almost new but fingers crossed on new part.....

well part arrived and putting it back in seemed easier than expected... using the force as I could see what I was doing. also twisted my back and been in pain for the last few days :(

anyway the end result was no different - but worth ago.

I don't know what started me looking into this but looked up AC reset, did this and now stage one fan is working and AC seems little better. took the car out and seemed stable around 90c but oh my god with all the work it is blxxdy quick, I mean its never been like this before, smooth and oh WOW its fast - not even with metal to the floor, I'll need a runway for that..... but sadly the temp starting going over again :(

next step is to get her booked in.... only got about 4 weeks before goodwood and yep I'm worried

since changing the acculator I never get the bag of spanner at start up so I'm not sure if this is normal but time will tell...

Well done Darren, hope all goes well. Also, rest up and let your back sort itself out.

thanks Ross, just hoping I can find a garage to fix this in time for goodwood... few calls to make on monday

That is promising, hope only a sensor issue with the temp.

Glad you cured the bag of spanners at start up, let me know if it stays like this, as will have to look at replacing the accumulator next year if so. I get some noise until oil pressure is up.

Just about to replace gasket on covers, had a quick look at r/h and wondered if u had any tips on removing those cover bolts, there's a couple of really tight access ones in the middle by the looks of it...thx

I found best to drain a little coolant and remove the coolant tank and move the power steering reservoir for the other side, then get the secondary air valves out of the way.

The access is much improved then.

as GP79 said you can get better access but I didn't want to remove any parts I didn't need to - so with a spanner with adjustable head and hex bit, managed to get them undone

suggestion is also replace the spark plug gaskets and as GP79 recommended a while back in this thread - the cam oil filter. GP79 have a few pics / comments to show how to replace this (very helpfully)
