VHT paint is indistinguishable from the original finish if properly applied. Current weather is perfect conditions, needs to be warm and sunny. I did the cam covers on my F355 engine with it.

Don't buy the Hycote stuff though as that is shyte.

these solenoids cause issues in timing which I've been reading about with F430 guys. not sure if this has been my issue I had in italy when going over 80 - the car hesitating a little ? maybe find out when cleaned up and put back together.....

just waiting on paint for the covers........

I had a recent service and explained this issue with the car to the garage when going over 80 and was told they would look at this for me

when I collected the car it was reported as fine, in fact in very good health
great news, did you find the issue
no issue found
Mr service centre, did you take it over 80...
nop as we couldn't go over 70 due to speed limits that will be an hours labour sir

I experienced the same hesitations in My car but quite harsh, like misfires.I cut some of the cable insulation off(as Benny suggested i'd do)and cleaned the contacts, problem solved!

well how long is this taking..................................................

all parts now in....

injectors sonic cleaned, had one not performing great but all others were good, seals and filters replaced and all now level and pushing correct amount of fuel.

the rocker cover gasket was very bad, a part of it was split - that's very bad after 2 years :( compared to the original gasket that was leaking little but looked in better condition. also had a different feel between them both, new one seems more of a harder material or maybe the original one got softer over the years.

once the air intake is back should be able to start refitting.... sadly the car will miss the classic show this weekend but I will still be looking to go....

question time - what is the torque setting for the air-intake, is this also 10nm same as the rocker covers ?

Did you change the variator filters ok?

I'm ordering parts to do the exact same gasket job plus annual / oil service next week, don't want to dismantle too much unnecessarily.

Any tips much appreciated.

no I didn't but have now ordered them as makes sense whilst covers are off...

taking the covers off is almost easy except for the secondary air bracket, you will need to remove this first and need a rachet spanner that bends at the head and holds a 5-hex bit then patience and being very careful not to scratch your wing when undoing the bolts from under the value. you will also need to free off some pipe clips to remove the second air value.

MOST IMPORTANT is to number your spark plug and injectors connections if not already done and take pictures as you go.

i also got a bit of cardboard and draw the covers on it, made a holes to match bolt locations and put the bolts into the holes so I knew which one came from which locations......simples

best of luck, im just waiting for my filteres to arrive and then need to find the location to fit them :(

got mine from dealer (italy) after comment that eurospares could use patient parts, which one of my parts may have been.

think it was about £25 a side but recommend also getting the sparkplug gaskets as well as don't think mine were changed last time... these are £3ish ea. but need 8

small shopping list
2 rocker cover gaskets
8 sparkplug gaskets
2 variator filers

will put a full list, codes ect once i have it all back togther.... oh i can not wait to drive her again

Changed these variator filters, they are under the cam caps, as you said worst part of the job is the secondary air valve bracket!

Not too bad.

Basically remove timing chain guide (4 Allen bolts)
Then cam cap (3 Allen bolts)
Then lift off cap, BEWARE the is a small key that stops the variator rotating, just visible in the pic on the filter side of the variator, make sure you don't loose it!
The originals I had to use a large flat blade screw driver to unscrew, new ones easier with Allen key.

Just fill any voids with rags etc so nothing falls into the timing chain area, that would be a total disaster.
