As far as I understand the dry sump engines are completely immune from the variator issue. It's a completely different (better!) design than the later wet sump design. So whoever buys this car need not worry about that at all.
Ewan has it right, despite there being Variators on this car the issue lies with the return valve on the wet sumo cars and cam caps. This is not a problem on the dry sump cars so mine is not affected.
Win win situation as it also has the superior DS box
I think the only dry sump unit was the 4.2 in the 4200 and QP duoselect, not sure about the 3200 but all later units were wet sump to cut noise and reduce the number of pumps required.
