As with all these kind of transactions confidence and trust plays a big part and for whatever reasons the purchaser has been left with a lack confidence after fufilling his part of the transaction by the sounds of it through lack of communication it seems and the salesman going on holliday , lets hope he becomes a winner, but it smacks of gotcha money now you can wait , In an ideal world all customers should be treated the same dont you think , and with selling, trust and communication is key but seems severely lacking in this instance , sorry but thats how i see it , no excuses i see a spade ...i call it a spade ,

As it happened I was away on business when GP Nottingham gave me the nod on my GS, and it necessitated giving them a deposit to 'reserve' it and take it off the forecourt over the phone. Firstly, they did just that, they effectively took it off sale. Secondly when I arrived home a till receipt and printed receipt for the deposit were waiting for me. I guess it could be argued that taking the car off sale was a courtesy, but the proofs of having taken the deposit weren't; they are a legal requirement.

Referring back to the OP, you cannot entice a potential purchaser with all the usual one-liners - "lots of interest in this car, someone's coming to view tomorrow, the dealers are showing interest, etc, etc" and then not give due respect to the particular financial situation of that potential purchaser. If that means taking it off the forecourt for a while, or not completing the sale for a couple of weeks, then so be it. That is the nature of a specialist sale.

As to the following posts, then all points of view are pertinent. Hopefully it will be nothing more than an unfortunate initial experience and the sale will complete without any further issues, but getting proofs of payments are not an advisory, they're a compulsory and should be demanded without delay.

If the funds were paid via the Bank, or by credit card, then it's recorded and you have some protection. If it was passed over in cash then there could be a significant problem, without any proof. In this day and age with Liquidations hanging around a lot of companies knecks, which you don't hear about until it's happened, you would be a little nieve if you did not protect yourself in any transaction with anyone. When you are talking large sums of money, just imagine you might never see it, or the goods ever again, that should kick start your own protection mechanism.

When you buy a car like a Maserati, it's an occasion to you, and largely a purchase of the heart, and you would like, ideally, to deal with someone that not only appreciates that, but is also enthusiastic too. It taints the whole experience when the seller doesn't match up to your expectations.
I feel for you Ren, but I'm sure your car will wipe the frown from your brow.
My experience wasn't the same, but similarly disappointing in that I had to do all the chasing, salesmen never getting back to messages, (also some misinformation) but the car has more than made up for it, as I'm sure yours will.

As a side note, because of all the above, the next Maserati purchase I make will no doubt see me going straight to Dicky Grace. When I contacted him about possibly purchasing the Alfa GT he recently had (but getting muscled out because of colour by the wife and Son, as it was shared with them as the family run around) to say I found him on the ball is an understatement. Returning my calls immediately, emailing pics, verbal honest 'walk around' description of the car, you know, how it should be! All the back up you would need too and determined that you're happy with your purchase. After all it all reflects back to him personally. He's enthusiastic about Maseratis and know what makes a good second hand one.

Looking forward to seeing the QP when it all goes through Ren :)

Update .........
I asked if I could pick the car up later this afternoon giving them time to get their "special delivery" sorted out. Well, he finally called and dropped a bomb shell. "The mechanic took her out for a spin to make sure she was OK and ready to hand over, fuel her up etc. and came back and reported that the front wheels needed balancing. Well it's not been driven for 4 weeks since we took it out on your test drive !, We'll get it balanced tonight by our preferred mobile guy and it'll be ready for you in the morning"

I just can't wait to get hold of the car now and start enjoying the moment, just notch this down as dealing with the wrong man in wrong business with absolutely no business sense.

I'm picking the car up in the morning and going for lunch in Surrey with friends, so should get a good first trip in her and put all this behind me. I'll defo find time to post a few pics when I finally get home tomorrow night sometime :)
Thanks for your support and understanding and listening to my rant !

Good Luck Ren, hope you finally get her home! It's weird that you drove it 4 weeks ago and it was fine, been parked up from that time until now and suddenly the wheels need balancing?? I would pay attention to the front wheels and tyres, make sure they are all good, no flat spots on tyres and the correct matching wheels.

Thanks Andy. No it wasn't Simon I've been dealing with ............. wish it had of been.
I'm not knocking their experience or knowledge of the marque, it's the fact that the car wasn't taken off the market even when over 22K was put down and the lack of coverage where holidays are concerned. I won't mention the old fashioned hard sell tactics, nor the fact that the car wasn't ready for hand over even after a week's notice (ooops I just did :) )
Rest assured I'll be inspecting and logging everything prior to hand over this morning. Dead excited now to be honest !

Ren, double and triple check the front discs for vibration before accepting. They do warp and its not until you go above motorway speeds that you notice it. This might have been the balancing issue they were trying to rectify.

Front discs and pads are very expensive. On the GTS they are £700 for front pads, and £1500 for the front discs, plus VAT and fitting of course.

Sorry Ren, what Maserati have you purchased?

Blimey, this is an abject lesson. I bought my car (GT-S) from Greypaul in Nottingham and have to say the experience could not have gone better. In my case I decided to buy the car the day before I travelled to the States on a biz trip and they sorted everything out for me while I was there, keeping me in the loop with regular emails and even phone calls. Arrived back in UK and the car was sat in the delivery showroom waiting for me. The experience could not have gone smoother or been more pleasurable. They even made me a gift of a pair of Maserati coffee mugs to say thank you. Since then, the sales guys Anthony and James have both gone more than the extra mile to keep me happy. Lets hope they can sort out the handsfree because it's flipping cr4p!!!!!

Try Brembo Matt, much cheaper!!

They almost certainly will be Brembo, but in order to get the OEM business, Brembo will have signed an exclusivity deal, so it's a case of finding an equivalent, as we did with the 550 disks. Frustrating, but that's the way it goes.
