Always a huge satisfaction in doing some work yourself - well done. The disc looks well past it's best!

Yes those old discs look totally wasted mate, don't let them get that bad again, a bit dodgy on a supercar..!!

Took the car out after I finished yesterday and all was ok. Went out today and the brakes are making a terrible screeching/ grinding sound!!

I noticed on the old pads they had a thin metal plate on the back but the new ones did not. I smeared some copper grease on the backs of the pads, about a pea size blob. Should I have put more on?

Thanks

Possibly a bit more would have helped but a pea sized amount sounds about right. Does it sound like it's coming from one side?

May be a bit more from the near side. Should these thin metal plates gone in aswell with the pads?

With some cars (I can't remember if this applies to the Maser) the thin metal plate has to be removed from the old pads and attached to the new. I've had to do this plenty of times. The plate appears to be bonded to the pad, but is stuck on with a mixture of dirt, copper grease and static! Dig out your old pads and see if you can remove the metal plates from them.

I've never seen what MAF describes, but I have heard of it. Mine certainly do not have the shims on the new pads, and they weren't on the old ones either. It may be worth trying what MAF suggests, however.

Anti chatter shims...the screeching noise you hear is the high frequency vibration between the pad and the brake caliper pistons
Lost of new pads now have a bonded backing material that does the same job

Maybe the copper slip became displaced when you went on your first run

What pads are you useing..

Brendan, the good news is that you won't have to remove the calipers when you do this so it should be a relatively quick job!

Any motor parts or factors will stock a variant of it it is basically a high melting point grease loaded with copper particles it basically stays where you put it and is brilliant at stopping brake squeal, a smear on the back of the pads where the pistons contact and also the calipers where the nibs of the pads sit and the sides touch, just keep it well clear of the friction material and disk.

Are all the pins in place, just a thought, they need a bit of copper grease too, so the pads slide free..??
