I have to say the Greengrippers work very well. They started to smoke after a hard lap of the 'Ring and the discs were black but they didn't fade that much. For the price, I found them to be a really good everyday pad.

Have to agree.....for everyday use, but I rarely used the brakes....merely to keep the surface rust off 'em......;).......still MOT due on Tuesday, all systems look good

It's really weird that anyone has to file pad backplates down to get them to fit, surely they must have the part listed incorrectly and it's not the correct one for the car..??

In my case I shouldn't have had to file them at all, and it wasn't until the last pad fitment that I realised, which means I actually have to buy another set of pads because once I have rectified the problem they will likely be loose.

What makes me even more mad is that Autoshield fitted new pads to skimmed discs and have cut those pads to fit the lifted pad guides knowing this was the case. And doing so caused the discs to warp. I know this as each pad it a different size.

Can anyone confirm if the part number for the redstuff is DP 310332c OR DP3612c?

I sent ebc an email asking them which one i need for a Gransport and they sent me a link with both these part numbers.

Also, can anyone comment on the redstuff versus the Formula dynamics carbon/kevlar pads??

Disregard question about part numbers (one is for front the other for rears).

I would however be interested in views comparing the redstuff to fd carbon/kevlar pads

I have only ever used the Red Stuff Ceramics and I found them excellent with plenty of bite, apparently the Yellow Stuff are excellent too, never used FD..!!

Further to my previous posts I have now removed the calipers for further inspection. What I found was a bit of a mess! The topic of pad lift (or shim lift) has been precisely discussed but nothing has been never been documented. I couldn't find any detailed images of exactly what this disease entailed or how to correct it. I have taken photos of the old shims as fitted to the calipers and what I found underneath;

I noticed a small amount of lift and a bow in the centre if the shims;

Removing the shims revealed the issue;

This one shows just how bad the build up got

One of the calipers had to be split as I sheared once if the torx bolts off when trying to remove. A local engineering shop drilled it out and fitted a helicoil.

Once the **** was all cleaned off new plates and stainless Allan head bolts were thread locked back in place;

The calipers are now ready to fit back to the car along with new discs, it may be that the new yellow stuff pads (that were filled to fit the swollen shims) are scrap. They will be fitted to the car to see but I fear too much metal has been removed.

I expect a large number of early cars will have this issue, the shim is of a very poor design and the drain points behind the shim don't allow water to drain correctly and as a result brake dust builds and corrodes the aluminium.

Any hoo, this is now nearly complete and I expect the same on the rear!!

Alfa 166's used the same Brembo brake calipers with exacly the same problems as you describe

It obviously pays to try and keep them clean if you can..??

Unfortunately it's Impossible unless you remove the shims every time you change the pads. Mine have lasted 14 years and I expect them to last at least another 10+ with the new shims fitted (he says with hope!). If you need to file the pads for them to fit, then it's very likely that the same has happened to yours.

Hi Nikos
I ended up getting the FD 's (plus brembo 550 discs, FD springs and SS brake lines). All being fitted as we speak.
