Basically Arnold Clark paid Maserati for the inspection so have rightly asked Maserati why the EPB has failed and led to a £2k bill a few days later, to which Maserati have given whatever response deems it no fault of their own of course....

Autoshield have advised that at the time of the EPB failing, it was jammed partly on and this came about due to mechanical failure and would be something the driver/operator would be unaware of (clearly!). A bit different to "driving around with the handbrake on" as our friends at Arnold Clark put it.

Obviously I have informed Arnold Clark that it is an electronic parking brake that when functioning correctly disengages upon going into drive, and that if the EPB did not fully disengage upon going into drive at any point (i.e. was jammed partly on despite the dashboard indicating that it had successfully disengaged ), that it is down to a mechanical failure which should clearly be covered by their mechanical warranty....

The long and short of it is Autoshield have explicitly stated that a mechanical failure led to the handbrake being jammed which led to the damage and it needs to be covered by the mechanical warranty. AC are still debating this :-S

Maserati dealers are usually pretty slack at checking things, but excellent at charging for things not done. If the EPB did not disengage fully, then that is a mechanical fault..!! Maserati will tell every stupid lie in the book to try and get out of paying, they believe that maserati owners are idiots and you can tell them anything, which actually makes them look so stupid it's beyond belief sometimes. Arnold Clark should take the Maserati dealer to court if they don't see sense, they did not do their job which presumably they have charged for..!!

Good luck getting things sorted with AC, who hopefully will do the decent thing with their warranty.

Hope you soon get the car back on the road anyway, in a few months this will seem like just an annoying niggle.
