.......so just what the odds Ian......car split in two .....spells death trap in my understanding......do different in being thrown clear of a car....lethal outcomes.......4.5 million to one chance they survived.....

For any moden car to split into two is rare...unless its two cars cut n shut?

If not that was one **** of a crash which I think would have been a dreadful oucome in most cars ans they were very fortunate...an older car may have fared eithen worse

It could be argued that the shell, by splitting, absorbed much of the energy that usually kills occupants. I'm not saying I would rather be in a car that is likely to split apart on impact but in this case, whatever the odds, the occupants lived and therefore this car wasn't a death trap.

They were so lucky, whatever it is they got lucky.....

Nissan Juke is one **** car to drive....hired one for a day, did not feel confident doing 80 in it!!

So you're saying the J0KE was designed this way?

Not buying it Ian.....the crumple/protection zones are designed in not there by fluke on a Juke.....;)

I'm certainly not saying it was designed this way but a lot of new cars will split apart if they hit a signpost, sideways at speed. They may perform well in front impacts, off centre impacts or even wide-fronted side impacts but the modern trend of getting better mpg and performance from smaller motors means that weight and potentially strength have to be reduced. The occupants of this one were very lucky and I'm sure others will die in similar but far less damaged vehicles. It's just the way the mop flops.
